I like trying to make it out on a christmas eve trip each year on the hard deck. but 2 years ago there was no ice, and there isn't a lot this year. I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere near witing an hour and a half to two hours of layton. planning if anything a afternoon trip, so anything would help. Also, is late afternoon fishing and into the dark any good.

I know causey had unsafe ice a month ago, wondering if it was safe now, and how to catch fish there.

Not sure where to tell you to try, but afternoons to dark can be good ice fishing it just gets really cold as soon as the sun goes down. Later J

At least the weather forecast Thursday - Saturday looks really cold that maybe utah lake will be frozen by Saturday or Sunday.

Maybe that will do it. I guess we'll have to keep our fingers crossed. Crazy year, I can't believe its been so mild. Going to be a short ice season this year, if we ever get any ice. At least for those of us that don't live close enough to the high elevation lakes that have frozen. Later J

Scofield should be solid for overnight fishing. I was at Huntington yesterday and Scofield is nearby. The ice at Huntington is good. There were people on ATV's on the ice. Caught a bunch of Tigers and a few cutts. Can't keep any cutts though, just fyi. Crappie jigs worked the best tipped with waxed worms (not meal worms). 1\32 orange, white, green, yellow head with a clear, white water cricket (not sure of the exact name but it looks like a water cricket but has 6 small legs coming out of the side and are flat). Paddle bugs worked also. Fished in 17-19' of water. You don't need to go out to far. Jig, deadstick, jig, deadstick seemed like it worked the best. Most fish were closer to the bottom.
The snow started to come down towards the evening, so be cautious up there; especially today.
Shout out to crappiejoe for driving. It was a litlle over 2.5 hr drive for us. Needed an ice fix and pineview is taking it sweet time. But I've overnight fished pineview quite a bit last year.
Good luck
