Let us know how it works with the ryobi. I made my own with a rigid drill and it works awesome. You need a drill with lots of torque. I haven't looked up the specs on the ryobi but the rigid 18v has enough and also one of the Milwaukee 18 volt drills does. I think clam recommends Makita drills.

The folks at Sportsman's in Riverdale have had very good feedback on this unit.
The key to it is the drill. Like already stated you need a lot of torque for it to work. Take your time drilling with it. Don't force it at all. Get a hand sharpener for the auger blades and touch them up as needed. [signature]

It does have the Hi Lo gearbox and I went with the Ryobi because I already had the battery packs for it. I'm hoping it works.

First run with mine was on Sat. Went with rigid hammer drill as it has 650 in/lbs of torque. With a 2 amp hour battery, and 5 inch auger, I drilled about 200 inches of ice on one battery. Not a bit of hesitation. Punched right through 10 inches in seconds with minimal sound.
I think I'll take the rigid back and upgrade to the recommended milluake fuel as I believe it comes with larger 4 amp hour batteries. When searching for perch, I might run out of battery with the smaller 2 amp hour batteries. [signature] |
