A lot of people are wondering about Flaming Gorge ice. There's really not much to report because there isn't much ice. Only the uppermost portions of the reservoir are capped. The area around Firehole reportedly has 6+ inches, but there's patchwork ice/open water below there. Here's a picture taken this morning of Lost Dog, looking north from Confluence Point. As far as I could see up the Green River arm was open water. The wind is ripping today, so much of the ice in the picture is likely gone. We need another good, long cold snap (without wind) to help the ice coverage. Looking at the 7-day forecast, the temps will plummet after Xmas and hopefully make some new ice.
Hope it helps and Merry Xmas! Ryno

It may not be ready to ice fish but it sure is a pretty picture. Thanks for sharing.

The fishing was pretty slow at firehole on Saturday night. There were 5 groups on the ice and one left at 7:30. The other 4 that remained produced one burbot between us. They were biting at a rate of one bite per hour, but they were not taking the bait solidly. Hopefully, a cold snap comes and the fish become really predacious.
