Road Conditions to Huntington
#1
Just wondering what the road conditions are like getting down to Huntington Reservoir. Do they plow the highway all the way to it? My dad and I are trying to make a trip tomorrow but we have never been down there, so we don't know exactly what to expect. Any information about what the lake access is like would be greatly appreciated!!

The highway going right by it is plowed all winter long. The parking area at the reservoir may or may not be plowed. Also, be prepared for possible deep slush with all of this recent snow.

Just drove through there. If you don't have a four-wheel-drive I would suggest not attempting it at this point in time the snow is about 14 to 16 inches deep out on the lake, I know because I got out and checked. The roadway has been plowed but they must have left the plow about 1 inch above the highway because it is packed snow.
Funny thing is, if you look at Cleveland there are what appear to be wet water spots coming up through the snow. I don't know what that is but I have an idea that it is probably slush underneath the snow and possibly on top of some of the thinner spots of ice.
There is no doubt in my mind that the slush monster will definitely be there this weekend big time.

thats 12 to 18 inches of slush. We went in at the dam less than 100 yards in. stayed till 1:00 and had to crawl on our hands and knees to get off

Conditions sound like the same I encountered one year up there, and the wind was blowing about 30 mph and it was probably about 5 degrees. Miserable

went there Saturday night through Sunday morning and like 5wtrod said the road has a bit of packed snow that is slick. wind was blowing when i went up and there were snow drifts on the road not deeper than a foot and it was very windy. the lake has lots of snow on it with 10 inches of good ice and 4 inches of bad ice on that.
