Call me stupid but we left the rainy valley on Saturday and headed to Huntington to find ice. Need to take advantage of the times a father & son can get a chance to fish. We found a blizzard, no parking lot access and drifts to the lake that were waist deep. Took out a shovel and created a parking place. Took 1/2 hour to crawl to the lake. The ice was 1 foot thick with 5 inches of slush on top and 18 inches of snow on top of that.
In 30 years of ice fishing this wind and white out conditions were insane with road closures making the trip back home a long one.
The fishing was average and caught 10 nice tigers. Good thing the ice shelter came in handy. As we left, the parking lot had been plowed but the wind and drifts will fill it back up quickly. Be careful if traveling that direction.
