Huntington Tigers
#1
Call me stupid but we left the rainy valley on Saturday and headed to Huntington to find ice. Need to take advantage of the times a father & son can get a chance to fish. We found a blizzard, no parking lot access and drifts to the lake that were waist deep. Took out a shovel and created a parking place. Took 1/2 hour to crawl to the lake. The ice was 1 foot thick with 5 inches of slush on top and 18 inches of snow on top of that.

In 30 years of ice fishing this wind and white out conditions were insane with road closures making the trip back home a long one.

The fishing was average and caught 10 nice tigers. Good thing the ice shelter came in handy. As we left, the parking lot had been plowed but the wind and drifts will fill it back up quickly. Be careful if traveling that direction.

Horrible conditions... but you still managed to catch more than a few! I've had a couple icefishing trips like that and I didn't even catch one. Yet I still keep coming back for more! I guess it's in my blood! Happily most trips are successful and much more pleasant. Thanks for the report.

That, my friend, is why we all keep going back for more. My first ice fishing outing was in blizzard like conditions at Fish Lake and I haven't been able to get enough since then. Happy fishing!

I had to call in sick so I could go to Lake Powell!

I wouldn't call you stupid, I'd rather call you dedicated!

Ah yes, but is "dedicated" just another word for what lazy people call stupid . . .

Looks like a good trip to me! Some of my best fishing has been in a storm.

If you are coming from up north, utah county area, going through Fairview Canyon will save you about a half hour is the roads are clear. Either way going throught Soldier Summit is a lot slower whether the roads are clear or not.
