Christmas Eve on Bear Lake!
#1
It was a much better way to spend Christmas Eve Day than shopping, watching the boob-tube, or trying not to get in your spouse's way while they make the last minute adjustments for Christmas. So I went fishing. Weather was flat calm and a bit frosty in the morning, but warmer than the last several days; surface water temp 39.4F. Yesterday when I looked out on the lake there were at least 8 boats on the rockpile and more in other spots. Today, there was only one other boat and they were launching just ahead of me at 7:45 am, perfect--no crowding!. We both hit the rockpile area and did well. I landed 5 cutthroat trout total, two decent fish and the rest about 20-22". Jigging with tubes and cisco plus worms. 40' of water, but moved out to 52' at 9:30 when the fishing noticeably slowed down. When the sun would duck behind the odd cloud, I would inevitably hook another fish. Good day on the pond and great Christmas present to me!

Great report Scott. Must be nice living so close to Bear Lake. Wish I wasn't 2 1/2 hours away.

Good job getting out, it must really be nice living there. Like Kent said living down here by slc is a journey getting up there. Are the macs deeper or do they usually slow down this time of year? But sounds like it was a fun day.

I enjoy reading your posts along with the pictures, I have a buddy who use to guide with me on the Deseret that lives in Round Valley that is always after me to come up with my boat and take him out fishing on the big lake. I guess I should take him up on that, I would have a nice place to stay that is close to the lake. Merry Christmas to you and the family.[fishin]

Ya sleigh me Scott! "A couple decent fish, the rest 20-22".
You poor bastard! Big Blue has you spoiled compared with our little planter bows! Love the reports all the same.

So jigging not trolling this time around. Seems to have worked. Love the reports.

Roger is really busy with trapping. I see him and Faith out and about all the time running traps. However, he does love to ice fish. Hopefully the pond will freeze and everyone can get out on the hard deck. However, its gonna be a while yet. Bring up the boat in the mean time.

I just talked to Roger last week and he said he was hoping that the weather would turn colder up there cause the trapping is better then. Looks like he got his wish for colder temps. I haven't had a boat on Bear lake for 15 years or so. I haven't ice fished with Roger since I met up with Him, Stacy and one of the Cornia boys a couple years ago on Fontenelle to try for some lawyers (Bourbot).
