I recently purchased the marcum showdown troller from Rapala.com and I'm having a problem with the unit. I used it twice and it worked flawlessly but the third time there was some issues. First, when it gets power (either from AA batteries or a 12 volt I bought) it turns on automatically. Before I had to turn on the power manually. Secondly, once it's on none of the bottoms are working. The screen seems to work. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. I tried emailing the Rapala.com support team but I've gone a week with no reply. I know this probably belongs on the off topic board but I'm planning a trip tomorrow and would really like to have my showdown for it. Thanks for any info.

You may want to email Marcum instead of Rapala. Marcum is usually pretty quick to respond. I've heard of similar problems with the 5.6 showdown. It's got me worried cause mine is just a year old and I haven't been able to try it out yet. Hope you get it resolved, it's annoying not having your electronics working on the ice.

I have the 5.6 never had the come on by itself issue, can you turn it off or do you have to disconnect power? If you can turn it off manually it may not be worth sending back 'til ice is gone. On one trip I had the no bottom issue. It turned out I had it on split screen and it was only showing the top half of the water column, made me feel pretty dumb.

Try hooking it up at home where it is warm and test it out there. Make sure it isn't the cold weather and/or water getting into the unit. Also at home you can change any peramiters on it that you want it to show out in the field.

Thank you for all your advice. It seems like I'm going to have to ship it into Marcum. Kind of a pain as the ice season is just getting under way for me.
