US 40 water - 2 JAN
#1
Drove US-40 today and had ice fishing on my mind

Jordanelle - no visible ice to be seen

Strawberry North end - 8:00 AM there were ~ 30 groups on the ice. The parking lot was full. Reports were 2" - 5" over just a few hundred yards. Sounded like fishing was 'OK'

Strawberry Ladders - 2 individuals on the ice, it looked thin with bits of open water

Soldier Creek- 4 of 5 groups on the ice

Starvation - the view from the bridge looked like ice is still forming with open water patches in many places

Matt Warner - Friend reported catching 3 fish in a ~4 hour period. The road was open enough to drive a car to the lake.

Thanks for doing recon work of the lakes, this is the first time in 5 years that I have not been ice fishing during the holidays. I like ice fishing but not on 2" ice! I'll give it another week or two to thicken up.

Thanks for the information. Reports like yours can save some folks a lot of gas money and disappointment.

I'm going to try and hit Starvation next week with the kick boat if there is still some shore line access to the open water. There was a portion of Rabbit Gulch that never froze in 2011-2012 so I'm hoping that is the case this year.
