Does anyone know if is legal to fish Mantua during the night or do gates/parking lots get closed?
Is there a State Park there?
Thanks all.

I'm pretty sure you can fish Mantua at night Shane, I've never seen a gate that closes the road or parking lot. Mantua is not a state park and they do not charge to park.

I have fished there at night in the summer. No problem.

[#0000FF]Legal to fish at night there...and no parking fees or permits needed.
Fishing can be good for all species there at night...except for perch. They tend to shut down after dark. In "light" of current ice conditions, however, it may not be wise to venture out when visibility is poor and there are open spots on the ice. [/#0000FF] [signature]

I know there isn't a charge to park at Mantua, but they did start charging a $5.00 fee for launching a boat. Now, with ice on, would the city there consider pulling an ice sled out onto the lake same as a launched boat ? I've heard the local cop come up with stranger ideas of what can and can't be done there. And since it isn't a State park, they can pretty much set their own laws, right?

[#0000FF]You are right. As a private lake they can set and interpret the rules however they want. But the launch fee is only for launching boats.
Actually, they relax the parking regs during the winter months. During the summer you will get a ticket for parking anywhere along the southern perimeter road. Parking is restricted to the designated area at the end of the road...by the gate and the inlet. But during the winter they allow the ice anglers to get on the ice along the southern shore...and to park there without a ticket. But don't park by the ramp except to unload your gear...before parking down by the restrooms. "Barney" is notorious for handing out tickets for a multitude of "infractions"...at least for anybody he can catch. That leaves out the big boats that belong to big spenders. He especially loves stopping folks who go over 25 mph around the lake or in town. The highway patrol is also fond of nailing speeders in the area. [/#0000FF] [signature]

The fee is actually for using the ramp I believe. You can launch boats and floats elsewhere around the lake (canoes and toons and such).
Maybe they'd start with charging snow-mobile/wheelers first - if they have to use the ramp to get on. But - no gates on the main roads or parking lots. |
