fish finder for ice fishing
#1
I posted last week about flashers for ice fishing got great responds, I haven't bought one yet but was wondering if anyone has a hummingbird 688. Dual flasher/sonar/GPS etc. Just wondering how you like it I'm thinking I might get one next week. I could use it for ice fishing and open water. Thanks again great page.

I dont know about that unit but my lowrance elite 4 hdi has the gps, graph and the flasher on it. I have found the flasher is pretty much worthless on that unit. I ld think if you want a flasher, stick to a flasher unit.

This doesn't answer your specific question, but I posted up a link that got moved to the classified section earlier today about the Marcum troller 2.0 being on sale on Amazon. I'm super stoked for mine and they're on sale for $160 right now - cheapest I've seen for a new one.

This is the link: http://www.amazon.com/MarCum-Showdown-Tr...B0081X0SN2

I actually purchased a used one off of ebay LAST week for $152. [crazy]

Lucky for me the seller takes returns and so I'm getting a brand new one off amazon for $160.

I'm trying mine out on Saturday at the berry. Hoping it treats me good.

I can't help you on the hummingbird, but I have an elite 5 and it did take me some time playing with the settings u til I learned how to use it on the ice more effectively. It has a flasher mode like the elite 4 and I usually don't use it because I don't need to. It does fine showing your lure, the depth, and the fish when they come in. I looked a lot on YouTube to see the model I was interested in, in action and that helped me see how to use it and I also made sure it had all the functions that I needed.

I have the hummingbird 688 i and love it. I'm not a flasher guy, but it has one. It is a very versatile and user friendly finder. It is made to use for both ice and boat. I would highly recomend it.

I forgot to mention it, but when I was shopping for mine I went to the big outdoors store, C......as, which is a store that I love. But I was Saddened to talk to the guy about fish finders because I could tell that he was telling me things that were not right about the model I was looking at. I went back another day and got a better salesman who was more help, but I found out that researching them online and on YouTube was more helpful than talking to the person at the store. He wasn't meaning to mislead me, I think it was just that he wasn't familiar with the model I was looking at so he told me it couldn't do certain things that I could clearly see that it could on the display model right in front of us. Anyways, good luck getting one. Now that I have mine, I wouldn't try to ice fish without it.

I just got the 688 this season and hollllllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy crap it is awesome.... It really is a game changer on the ice. there is a view where you have the vertical flasher showing you real time and the graph to show you history.... you can set fish ID on and every time a fish comes through that meets the sensitivity of the Fish ID it will beep and you can run back over to that hole and check out the history.

It is fantastic....

Heh,heh, heh. Another convert ;-) There are a lot of flasher guys on here that don't realize how powerful a tool it is to have a history. My 10 yr old Eagle fishmark does just what you describe with the realtime graph and the history allows you to see what you may have missed when looking away or precisely line up you jig with that fleeting suspended mark. I need a new finder soon and I just cannot bring myself to switch to a flasher and have resigned myself that I probably never will.

Lowrance has their Elite 3x portable which comes with an ice transducer, battery, carrying case, etc. Ready to go for about $200 after a $50 mail in rebate. No flasher mode, but a good unit for cheap.
