As far as Wyoming goes read the attached PDF that explains the rules for artificial light for fishing and hunting.

Yeah, I don't understand why "glow in the dark" doesn't fall into the same category. I wanted to use glow - sticks once, but was told that glow in the dark was ok, but glow-stick was not.

Yeah, I had heard WY had a rule against it. The only thing in the utah guidebook is you can't use artificial lights when spearfishing. But there is even an exception to that rule: it's ok when your spearing burbot.

There is no rule against it. A lighted lure is perfectly LEGAL in Wyoming.

"Prohibited Devices For
Fishing
: Fish finders or underwater cameras that
produce artificial light (when used to attract
and/or take fish)
: Battery-powered light producing lures
: Submersible lights "
Sounds like its illegal to me...On the wyoming side at least

Thanks for the information. It's good to know that the rule has changed.
So, back to the original question. Has anybody tried any of the lighted lures?

No, but have talked about it plenty. The conversation leaned toward glow sticks that we use for the balls that are used for night golfing tournaments? They are approx. 3/4" to 1" long maybe 3/16" to a 1/4" round. Multiple colors as well.

I have found some crappie jigs that have the glow sticks for night fishing. I think it was sportsmans warehouse. They do work. Back in the 90's when I first started ice fishing we used glow sticks that we would rig above a swivel and had a plastic sleeve you stick the glow stick in to keep it above your baited jig. It attracted fish very well from what I remember. I only remember getting those at anglers inn in sugar house. Haven't seen them since. Some pretty crafty ideas have come from those glow sticks and fishing. I think they work.

The big problem with glowsticks is that the chemicals used are less effective in cold temperatures- not an ideal feature for ice fishing.
I caught a decent cut at the berry this past Saturday in the pre-dawn twilight with one of the battery- lighted lures. Didn't get any luck after the one fish though, so can't say anything conclusive.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know the regs had changed. It's kind of a double edged sword, the burbot catching has dropped off but we didn't want them in there in the first place.
The artificial light would have been nice to use the last few years.

We have tried the little 1.5" long glow sticks for burbot and they worked great. But we caught the same amount on glow sticks and chunk of bait as with with glow lures.
