I would like to set a few crawdad traps while I am fishing at Strawberry. Has anyone ever been successful at catching any through the ice? I have caught a few 'dads on my jigs at Flaming Gorge while fishing for burbot. So I am confident they are actively feeding.
Thoughts?
Suggestions?

You might get afew, but they are pretty dormant in cold weather! You are most likely putting that bait right on top of them if you are catching them!!

I have caught several through the ice while fishing at Strawberry. I then twist off their tail and release them unharmed. A freshly caught crawdad tail makes a great bait at Strawberry.

It surprises me just how much they are crawling around on the camera when I was out there last year on the Soldier Creek side.
At one time there were about a dozen of them in view and some of them were even fighting.

After having several "hits" and misses, we finally reeling in the culprit. He wasn't about to let go of the chunk of powerbait in his claw. This was at the ladders a couple years ago.

"released unharmed" after being harmed is classic venerable TD rhetorical irony lol. Kinda like baptizing the heathen fishies by pulling them out of the water on a Sunday lol.
