Berry Help
#1
I have fished strawberry on the hard deck once (last weekend) and have learned a few things since.
#1. Get there early
#2. Get away from the crowd

When I went last time I fished straight out from the marina. I fished for 6 hours without a bite. I did move around to different depths but I think I was just around too many people. I used paddle bugs, tube jigs, gazillas, fizzy bugs, and cutr bugs. I used mostly pink and white. Another problem that I think I had was the fact that the only thing I had to tip my jig was a night crawler. Next time I will have wax worms and meal worms. I tried jigging and just letting my pole sit.

Here's where I need the help. I will be giving it another go this Wednesday. Where do I go? The marina area, mud creek, or east chicken creek? What should I try and use? Any jigs you all suggest I buy to take up there? Any help would be appreciated. Even on the soft water I never have good luck. I'm just looking to get into some fish.

Thanks

You have a good selection of jigs there. I would add minnow cut bait to your selection and you should be good to go. Any of the areas you mentioned should hold some fish and Soldier Creek could also be added to the list (more rainbows over there and that should increase your odds of catching some fish).

2x what kent said I would add to walk and get away from where its been fish hard. I like to fish in 18-28 feet deep and fish the other pole 10 feet down let us know how ya do

I'm no expert but the fish we caught were in 18-20 feet of water.

Our hot set up were 2.5" white tube jigs (fat ones with big heads) bouncing right on the bottom. The weight helps feel the bottom and makes more "noise" bumping down there.

One difference: I prefer chub (or sucker meat when not available) to minnows when fishing for Cutts because the sucker meat can withstand several hits and fish.

I haven't found frozen chubs available at the local stores, but sucker meat is. Put about 1/2" square on the jig (it is hard to get on there, thick skin) and fish it on the bottom.

At least that's how we caught most our fish Saturday.

Good luck out there.

I concur with what Kent said. We just returned from Soldier Creek and did very well today. Ratfinkies produced the most fish for us. Good luck!

I had to call in sick so I could go to Lake Powell!

Well things didn't work out for Wednesdays trip. I will be heading up Friday instead. I have thought about soldier creek but I've never fished that side. I'm leaning towards west of the marina a little bit or mud creek. Where would y'all go? It's gonna be my wifes' and my sisters' first ice fishing trip so I just want them to catch a fish.

P.S... I bought some garlic spray today. Hopefully that will help!

Soldier Creek side. Park by the highway and walk down the hill. On second thought, it may be more of a climb coming back up than you would prefer and there also is no restroom. Second choice would be east of the marina. If you aren't going to walk further than "a little bit", IMNSHO walking east of the marina is a slightly better choice than walking west of the marina.
