I made what is now becoming an annual ice fishing trip for me Saturday to Strawberry.
I'm not an ice fisherman, but apparently I am the only person in the greater Salt Lake metro area that doesn't go to Strawberry on Saturdays to Ice fish.
Wow, what a MESS!
We had a spot picked out on the other side of the camp ground (about 2/3 mile walk from the Marina Parking lot). So being the noobs we are we loaded up a kids' green sled and trekked out across the ice.
We set up and started fishing around 10. The first half hour was pretty slow with only a few bites and one on the ice. Our second two hours we landed 12 fish and had about that many more on for a few reels before losing them.
We'd definitely know when a school came through because within a few minutes, all our poles would be hit, we'd reel up a couple, then it'd go quiet for 20 minutes again.
We fish another slow hour with a couple more fish and packed up and were on the road by about 3PM. Our total was 15 cutts, most were 18-20in". A couple were 15-16". Nothing over the slot.
We talked to a few others and most said it was pretty slow with 2-5 fish totals.
I think the walk paid dividends. Here are a few pics:
