Are you a good jigger? Maybe not
#1
I found this.
I would like to take some one out in my boat that could teach me how to jig.

Are you a good jigger? Maybe not
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We just finished the new jig tank for testing jigs in an effort to understand more about what we are trying to do on the lake. (Besides what else is there to do in the winter?)
We tested 30 different jigs, 10 different rods and 3 different size of mono and braid.
What did we find out?
1. Some jigs act very different than others.
2. Size of jigs is probably the biggest factor in how they act.
3. Line size makes a difference. (We did this to try to simulate line drag at depth)
4. Rods makes a huge difference. (This came as a surprise to me.)
5. We probably are not as good as we think we are.
I realize that what I think is a good looking action on a jig may be entirely different from a fish. That being said we grabbed some proven killers rigged the way we fished them for a base line of how to judge the other jigs. We found that the proven jigs got more consistent darting action on the rips up and more often (turned over) and folded for a steady fall. This being said even the good jigs (being jigged by my most successful crew member) had some ineffective ( in my judgment) trips up and down.
Being able to watch the jigs in action provided an eye opening look at how much we can improve our skills. After a few minutes we were able to be much more consistent working the jigs. We also could feel when we got an effective jig action.
I am excited about more testing and practice for myself and the crew of The Lucky Duck.

Um, why do you need a jig tank? I see exactly what my jigs do by watching them in the water and on the bottom right over the edge of my boat in a few feet of water. And my customers wonder why I'm so picky about trying to maintain a "perfect" presentation![laugh] Every move you make, and every breath you take, effects the jig action. Your grip, your rod, your line, your rigging, your lead head, your own head, your posture, your . . . everything![Smile]

This is NOT breaking news![Wink]
