What a crazy and fun day! We took trip out to Pelican and started fishing this morning at about 8:30 a.m. We found the fish where I usually like to go and we started catching fish right away. In all, we caught 40+ bluegill and bass in about 4 hours.
My son has pics on his GoPro, so I don't have anything to post right now.
We then decided to go to Strawberry on our way home and try our luck on the Soldier Creek side. Glad we did because in 1 1/2 hours, fishing was almost non-stop. They were a bit picky, but we lost count after catching 10 fish.
To top it all off, we stopped at Daniels Summit and had dinner. All in all, it was a great fishing day!

Nice! What a day. I had often thought about a camp-over double header starting at Pelican, and ending at Strawberry or Starvation.
Any hints about how to find those bluegills this year? Depth? Structure? Cover? I missed early ice around here. I probably won't make it that far east this year, but Pelican is sure a fun trip if I can afford the gas.

Hi boat_guy, thanks for the great post. I would like to take my son to Pelican to try for some gills. Long drive without knowing what I'm doing though. Would you be gracious enough to send a PM with some info without giving away the farm? Thanks for considering!
Regards,

I'm glad you had a good day at Pelican on the ice. My wife and I use to make an annual trip for 2 or 3 days in the winter which dates back to the late 70's. We haven't been for several winters now as our last trip was terrible and in 2 days fishing we only iced 40 some gills when we used to catch 300+ gills and quite a few bass. It sounds like the DNR may poison the lake and restock it with gills or bass. Once again thanks for posting on one of our favorite places to ice fish. [fishin]
