Community Ponds
#1
Was just out driving around yesterday afternoon. Stopped a several community ponds in and around my area. They all seemed to be having quite alot of activity. Saw several small planter size Rainbows caught is all of them. But the last one I stopped at I watched a guy hook up and tussle with a beautiful Rainbow that was one of the largest I have seen in any community pond.
he played it for maybe 10 minutes on light line and finally got it to his net. It was a BIGUN ! [Smile] Measured at 26.5". He measured it, had some photos taken, and quite gently released it. A real professional angler in my opinion. I took a few photos too, but at his request I will not post them. Just was nice to see someone fishing a community pond that wasn't out to harvest everything they hooked. Kudos to you, you know who you are.

Since the DWR started stocking the community ponds with brood stock bows the catching has been excellent for some very nice fish. That has got to be one of the bigger fish they have stocked. FYI, I heard that your perch spot at Willard has open water and they are being caught there already.

I've never caught anything bigger than 10 inches out of the community ponds I like to hit on a whim in the summer now and then. Never felt real bad keeping a couple of 9" planter bows for dinner, but if I caught a 26" rainbow out of a community pond I sure as heck would be putting it back haha.

Give it a try in the Fall, that is when they stock the big ones, after they are done spawning.

Why? It isn't going to spawn in the community pond. I guess if you want to "share the love" so to speak. Let somebody else catch it too. Of course they're awful tasting, but that's true of any trout that's been in a hatchery recently.

I've found that if I put in enough butter and seasoning, I can't tell the difference Big Grin

This last fall my son and I were at a community pond in utah county. We fish this place often and it is so overfished that sometimes I swear there are more lines in the pond than fish. Anyways in the fall the fishing gets better because the amount of people that fish it is drastically different. Anyways, this fall my son caught the biggest trout I have ever caught, and I was so surprised that it was at a community pond. It measured 24 inches and my son has been hooked on fishing ever since.

Hey Curt, thanks for that bit of info. If the rain holds off I just might go sit next to that spot and drown a few worms on Sunday........
