I can say that as of Saturday afternoon, there was still 6-7" of ice! However, you wanted a plank to get on and off, but once on..great ice and very successful fishing too!

As of 9:45pm tonight [2/2] it is 40+ degrees and raining in Hyrum. I don't think that will have a positive effect on the ice situation.

It's really tough conditions this year and we will all have to be very careful as the ice deteriorates. I'm sure the ice will be gone before our desires to ice fish this year so that will likely mean someone will go swimming before it's over. Be careful it's not you. Later J

Cool, did you catch anything decent? I agree with your month off acessment. I guess that's why we have a tough time trusting it as being spring yet... Likely to have more snow and cold, but sure seems like spring... My garden was dry yesterday and I almost worked up a strip and planted some peas.... Crazy weather for sure... J

While the fishing activity was quite active much of the time, we never exceeded 14"..a couple of those('bows) and several between 11-13" and a ton of perch (mostly small)

Sounds familiar, that's all I've been able to find there this year. I did have a couple nice ones grab hold, but I've managed to lose both of them. Thanks for the info. J

Thanks for the reports. Almost drove over today to have a look.
Crazy - crocus and early bulbs already started to breach soil. That ain't right!
I'm thinking my hope of a Porky trip just might not happen this year. And though I haven't yet hit Hyrum, can't say I've been inspired by the multitude of planter bows and bitty perch. Maybe in another year or two we might see a real perch boost instead of bust over there!
well - at least I can say I tried one of my new tents.
So you slept ON the ice? Or did you keep fishing all night, until the revellers woke you up?
haven't heard anything of Newton this year. Guess that says something (it's either REALLY great, or - well, not).

Coyote - Yeah we slept and fished. It was decent enough with the temps, that we came out of the tents and made new holes at 11:30 pm...no luck for 30 minutes, then all of a sudden , 3 perch and 3 'bows in a matter of about 7 minutes, right around midnight! pretty fun. Then we dozed off in the tents for a bit and I left my line in, so kept rolling over to check it..nothing. Then at 3:30am when the ATV riders woke me up, I recharged my glow jig, and fished for another 20 minutes in the tent, with just 1 big hit, but nothing to show. Back to bed.....then the sleds dragging the ice woke us up when people started showing up...inconsiderate!! lol! .it was a fun fun time!
