I haven't hit it since late November or early December. It stayed warm so far into December that I was still fishing in town. Fished up the canyon a little ways before Vivian park in late November and caught a few good sized browns.

I'm guessing if it was ever cold enough for the river to freeze and be unfishable, it was only for a few days. You're probably fine to head up there and try it out again any time. Dunno how the fishing will be, but I bet you can still catch browns, brooks, and bows. Let us know how it goes if you decide to give it a shot!

Edit: you got me curious, so I checked out the latest DWR report (from 1/29). They said people are still catching browns and rainbows on streamers, nymphs, and gold spinners. I've had success with a gold Vibrax for browns in the past. Although with water this cold and spawning over, I think you may have better luck drift fishing microjigs like a trout magnet or something. Gold trout magnets have worked well for me in the past, suspended under a bobber where the current is nice and slow. Try drifting just past cover or into pools.

I've fished the general regs section quite a bit with Gulp minnows lately and the fish are still there.

Upstream from Canyon Glen Park is a nice stretch of river. There are some hogs in there too.

My last two visits gave me slower fishing than usual, but the nice weather we're having should help.

I think largely because of this topic, I got bit with the stream fishing bug today and decided to blow off class since that's literally the only time I have anymore to fish.

Hit the lower Provo in some of my favorite spots, but got skunked. The browns were there. I could see them. While the sun was out they would bask in the shallows, presumably because it was warm. Couldn't even successfully sneak up on them without spooking them.

Once the sun started setting, they got a lot more active and were hopping after the flies. I actually didn't try a fly. Wanted to stick with spinners and trout magnets. Unfortunately nothing I offered interested them much, so I got skunked.

Still... a couple hours of 60° weather on the lower Provo beats 2.5 hours of lecture any day Big Grin
