Fish Lake This Saturday (Tomorrow)??
#1
I am new to posting on this site but not new to checking it. I have not seen a Fish Lake update since last weekend. Everyone said it was safe but I know we have had high temperatures this week. I have been checking the weather up there and it has been in the lower 20's up there every night except yesterday and today say the low will be in the lower 30's. Has anyone been up there as of late and checked the ice? It is a long trip to go up there tomorrow to find we can't get on the ice.

Welcome to BFT. You may want to call the Fish Lake Lodge:

I called today. From what they said it sounds safe. Edges and everything is good.

The edges stay good at Fish Lake because it's a lake, not a reservoir. It's almost always at full pool. It doesn't vary more than a foot or so all year.

Are you able to camp in the campgrounds there during the winter? Is there a fee to camp? I'd like to bring my boys down for a winter camp if it is allowed. Let me know how it goes and how deep the snow was! (of course I am looking forward to a catching update!)

I'm not sure about camping at fish lake but I know you can see if they got a cabin open for reservation. I'm just going with my sister and her friends to fruita camping ground because while they are doing a canyoneering trip I will be ice fishing at fish lake. It's like a 1 hr drive from Fruita camping to Fish Lake. I'm sure going to be happy only paying like $10-15 for this trip [cool].

The campgrounds close for the winter and I think technically, there is no camping allowed in Fish Lake basin. (I may be wrong about that)
I was up there this morning and there are folks camped in various places where you can pitch a tent. There were also several camp trailers in the parking lots. Sheriff's deputy was on patrol and I didn't see him booting anyone out. So if it's not allowed, I don't think they are enforcing it.
Fishing was way slow. Lots of fish on the finder at 20-30' and not many takers except for the 10" rainbows that cruise through at 10-15'. Our group only got a couple keeper sized splake.
Edge of the ice was solid. Open water 75' out from Twin Creeks.

My thought exactly. Fishing was slow. Even had to move a bit to keep the perch biting. Still had a great time with my boys and brothers.

I noticed the camps too. Being close may be nice but I'm not sure I could convince my boys to tent it. We typically stay in Richfield for our annual trip. Hard to beat a soak in the hot tub. [Wink]
