Keitech products
#1
I just replied to a thread on gulp and it got me thinking of other plastics...

Has anyone else in the Utah/WY area discovered keitech products? They are made in Japan. I purchase them from tacklewarehouse.com They are really soft, have great action and come with a "squid" scent that I'm assuming can't hurt, by how effective these are. After awhile the scent is gone but I apply pro-cure scents to them and because they are ribbed... they have a lot of surface area to coat in scent.

I'm the type of fisherman that will try just about anything and everything... you can learn as much from crappy baits as you can from excellent ones. But my experimentation days have faded and these days I am usually fishing these plastics... (I do not work for them, have any stake in the company, etc)

The keitech swing impacts and swing fat impacts are my favorites. The 2.8" version works great for crappie and trout (smallies too!). And I fish 3.8", 4.8",5.8" versions for walleye... Jigheads / swimbait lead heads. You cannot fish these baits the wrong way. Steady retrieve works, pause and go, jerking them, vertical jigging, etc. I swear by these baits at night for walleye... something about that ribbed body and paddletail that really gets them going.

I have been using the Swing Impacts and spider grubs for a few years now. I really like them, but the Swing Impacts are pretty fragile. The spiders on the other hand hold up extremely well. They were discontinued for a while, but it looks like they're back. They have a new formula now apparently, so I'm hoping they're still durable. The smallies love them.

The little spiders are definitely more durable...and they are an awesome little bait too.

There is no doubt that the swing and fat swing impacts are not as durable as most plastics. But there is also no doubt in my opinion that these have the best action you'll find. They come in a lot of great colors too.

If you are on a budget and need your $ to go a long ways, these are probably not the baits for you... they are high quality baits and come with a higher price tag. Add in the durability issues and I can see why these baits are not for everyone.

But be warned, once you try them you won't want to fish other plastics[Wink]
Buy one pack and compare the action you get out of a 3" swing impact to a 3" gulp minnow. There is no comparison! (I forgot to mention this but I was recently in Sportsmanswarehouse in UT and to my surprise they carried some keitech stuff!)

Oh yeah, they're definitely a fish catching product. I'm a Megabass (and other Japanese hardbait) fanatic/collector, so I can't really say anything about price as I've spent a ton of money on gear [Wink]

A cheaper alternative that I use quite a bit are the Reaction Innovations Little Dippers and Strike King Swimmin Caffeine Shad. Those two have been pretty good to me and hold up a lot better. Still, there are times when the Keitech are better as they have such a good action at super slow speeds. I really want to make my own ribbed swimbaits, but the molds are expensive too because all the machining that goes into making all those ribs.

I've been using them for 4 years. Buy some mend-it glue. It will add some life to those keitechs and any other soft plastic.

I should probably invest in some mend it. I normally don't worry too much about it as I make my own plastics. When they get torn I just melt them down later and shoot some new baits. Those Swing Impacts are pricey enough that I think they're repairing for sure.

it's cool stuff, keeps the elasticity of the soft plastic and simple to use without a mess.
