Cabelas in Utah - NOPE
#1
Just got off line with Cabelas, their company line is that there are no plans to put a store in Utah.

I dissapointed, but I was very skeptical if ther would ever be a store in Utah.

For now it looks like it was a pipe dream.

I wouldn't give up hope just yet FFM. I'm sure they take the same corporate stance as all the big wigs...."We cannot comment on unannounced products".....

Just like a few years ago when Morton sold out to Autoliv. The employees were all told there was no chance of a switch, then one day the paper announces the sale...before the company could even tell there employees! All corporate big wigs are trained and professional liars.

Trust me, don't beleive anything you hear over the phone from a regular Cabela employee. They are the last to hear of anything. They are treated like dirt and kept in the blind. The same thing happened when they opened another store in Oklahoma or Nebraska wherever that is, the employees at the headquarters were kept in the dark until after the annoucement usually made at ground breaking ceremonies.

I did talk to one of the Lehi councilman who is a avid outdoorsman, and he said that they have been approached by Cabelas, and I asked him for more info. He was not at liberty to share, and I was persistent in getting him to spill it. He can only tell me that Cabelas did come to town, just that it's not finalized yet. So that's a precurser of things to come.

Well now for my 3 cents, Lehi has been approached by cabelas, as well as a few other places, Cabelas will be in utah (keep your fingers crossed) they are looking for the most freebies, that other location in utah will shell out.

Correct they are looking for freebies, the last store they put in cost that state Penn) $40 million in incentives. With this economy, and with Micron did down in Utah County do you still think there is even a remote possibility of one being built in Utah?

I don't think so............Besides the surrounding area is too big for the type of places they normally put their stores in.

They want to be the major employer in a small town.

I'd like to see one here but its just not realistic. Not in todays economy, not in Utah. If one comes west I look to little places like Idaho or Wyoming before it lands in our laps in Utah.

Look at the brightside though. They are putting up a Bass Pro Shops in Las Vegas. Thats only 6 hrs away and you know Cabela's will follow them out here eventually.

Cabelas came to Utah on a fishing, not a hunting expedition!!! They're not just throwing bait toward Lehi, they're throwing bait out to other Utah communities to see if they can get any bites. cabelas wants a site that is in or near a major interstate. Has high visibility in the surrounding communities and can dominate the regional market area once established. The location will be within a smaller ( controlable) city. Hummmmm, I seem to remember another company that took this exact same approach as it began it's initial expansion across the country.. aka Wal Mart. I believe Utah will see a Cabelas eventually! It will come down to which Utah small city is willing to sell it's sole ( city governence and tax breaks) to them. I wouldn't count out a Tooele, or Coalville area ( I-80) location. Think about where the first Wal Mart store in Utah was built ?

Ryno, glad you mentioned the Bass pros being built in vegas.

It seems to me if you want to build a distribution hub and a big show room like a cabelas or bass pros, the palce to do it out west is definitley vegas.

Vegas has the numbers, the people, the flash and show, and obviously appealed to Bass pros who were also rumored to be looking here in utah numerous times over the years.

Utah would be my last choice.

These rumors love to fly around though. I have family in wyoming and idaho and they all have the same rumors going around. Cabelas and bass pros are looking to build in every state in the west it seems.

I find it funny that a couple months ago cabelas actually had a building under construction here in utah, but that faded quickly. Now it seems to have been placed along side the other million rumors like it, in the discard pile. Turns out it wasnt cabelas after all. Kind of like three years ago when they started construction on the new cabelas in brigham city. Shoot, even the city council was quoted as confirming it was cabelas. Looks like a walmart to me.

But one thing is for sure, hopes are high all around the west. Everyone wants a cabelas in thier back yard, so you can count on a million more rumors like this for a long time coming.

Maybee one day cableas will have a store here in utah. Why not, they have them in a bunch of crazy locations all around. Maybee the millions of rumors floating around idaho will finally come true and they will build one there. One way or the other, I aint to worried about it.

Kind of funny to watch the rumors though.

Well I have it on good athority that cabela's is coming to Utah near Thanksgiving Point not sure what side of the freeway. but I know the the land was donated to them to build a store but they have to build to get the land. soo if no store no land. The land was donated by someone that is tired of sports warehouse and wanted a change. so my understanding is they are going to be coming but probably not until the store they are working on is completed. and with bass proo coming to vegas cabela's will follow.
