Yuba
#1
So, I'm kicking around the idea of a camping trip to Yuba this weekend before the kids sports seasons start up. Got a couple questions...
Has anyone ever done boat-in camping there?
and
I've never fished pike...can someone give me a crash course? Locations, lures, styles, speeds, etc?
Any help would be awesome, I'd be happy to trade tips with anyone!

Pike are aggressive feeders. Try gold spoons and cranks in perch and carp imitations. Be sure to use steel leaders. Them critters gots teeth. Also pliers are a must. Get some lip grippers too. No need to have perforated thumbs either.

I like fishing Yuba but to be honest never been down therethis early. But I know some guys are successful and usually fish shallow. Ihave hit it as early as mid-April and have done very well. It has been so warmit should be fishing ok and I am sure the Pike are active.

My lures of chose for the Pike are x-raps, husky jerks and Ihave had success on Manic Baits large 6” minnows (a lot like a swim bait).

I also have done very well early in the year pulling boardswith shad raps and the original floating minnow Rapala. This works very welllater in the spring and I pick up both Pike and Walleye.

Thanks everyone, now I just need to convince the wife and kids that it's not going to be too cold!
Does anyone know how the fishing around this Eagle Beach is?

Its called eagle view campground its close to the painted rocks area. I spent 5 days down their last year at this time. The area on the beach is sandy and full of cockleburs. We didn't fish from shore. They have not put any of the boat docks in their. If you can get the spot that is farthest to the northwest it has a few trees around it. and would be more protected from the wind. I have had some success already this month 3-8 hour trips and boated 5 Pike and 1 walleye. Its not the fastest action but the pay off is sometimes huge. Fish around the Narrows where the rocks are. I did see a number of pike in the shallow bays, but all fish have been caught in the 9'-15' water

For Pike, fish shallow, especially this early. 6" Maniac Minnows and even 3" Maniac Minnows are great for Pike. You need to swim these baits slow. The bite is often subtle, just a tick on the rod tip. Buy some braided line in at least 50lb. If you want some Carp colors, then get on http://www.maniaccustomlures.com and go to Bargain bin and buy the clear with gold flake. Some of my favorite colors for Pike at Yuba are the Smoke blue pearl, Holographic shad, Changeable Craw and Juvenile Perch. Good luck!!

the boat in camping is the greatest, I have done it tons of times. it's called
east beach just north of painted rocks. if you get a camp site the ones all the way up number 1 thru 4 are just about the best ones. for the pike try spinner baits 1/2 oz. green and white were the best last year for me. try the bank straight across from painted rocks boat ramp and work your way north casting to the shore. some fish were with in inches of the bank. good luck to you.

if you are casting , throw in some pauses . pike love hammering your lure when u alter the speed or pause -

I never fish for pike without tossing around a jerk bait , especially early or late in the season .

look forward to a report!

I always take some 6 inch chubs with me, after your arms cant cast anymore, put one below a bobber about 5 ft, I set it up just like ice fishing, a treble in the head and one in the tail, its great for kids.[fishin]
