I love fishing, but don't get out near enough. I recently moved to Ogden and have been dying to try the Weber River. I don't fly fish, and I know nothing about the river. Can anyone give me a few pointers such as best areas to go (I don't need your secret spots, just places in general) as well as some tips for fishing the river without fly fishing? Also, I have heard that there are restrictions on fishing with bait. Does this apply to the whole river. or only certain sections? TIA

Welcome to the Ogden Area, I like using rapala's in thefloating minnow, count down and x raps. In the floating and count down I usesizes 03-07 in the x rap 04-05's. I personally always start with something in agold color but experiment until the fish tell you what they want.

Use a jerk, jerk pause motion (a cadence). Just like if you werefishing for bass, stripers, wipers and so on. Trout are very aggressive andhave no trouble tracking the lure down. Manic minnows in the same color work will also!

There are some very big Browns in the river. I am not surewhere you live but to start try fishing the river from the confluence with theOgden river up. There are not a tone of trout down this low but enough to keepit interesting. There also some very big old browns down in this section. Thereare many access points from MT green up to Echo reservoir, in fact I thinkthere is map available from the DWR that shows all the access points. I alsolike the river above Echo reservoir and have caught browns 25" + in thissection. In Morgan there are good spots to access the river and I like to fishup towards the golf course.

My suggestion is to get out and fish it and do someexploring. You will eventually find some spots that you will go back to overand over.
