I'm mainly targeting carp or catfish close to Provo on the east side of Utah lake...any specific ideas for where to find fishable waters? Bait to use? Thanks!

Any of the harbors or marinas are usually pretty good. I like Lindon, and American Fork. Lots of people fish inside the marinas, but I try to fish outside, on the open lake. If you want to catch catfish, I would start with shrimp. Just thread a piece onto a larger sized hook and cast it out as far as you can manage.
For carp, my best luck has been with a piece of bread. Just pull off a piece (with no crust) and roll it into a tight ball and smash it onto a treble hook, just like power bait. I don't use any weight or bobber at all. With the weight of the bread, you can actually cast it out plenty far enough to catch carp. Plus the fish won't feel any resistance, just leave your bail open. (I've caught a few cats this way too). And, if you do manage to catch a carp, scale it, filet it, cut a nice sized chunk off and put that on a hook. I've done well with carp meat lately for the cats. Also, regular old nightcrawlers will always work for pretty much every species in Utah Lake. Good luck, and let us know how you do. [signature]

Thank you for the advice. I was actually talking to a guy this morning and apparently his friend used to slam the catfish using out of date shrimp from the grocery store. I'll probably try a couple methods if we end up going this weekend and I'll report any good news!
