Fished LB with my crew on Fri. and Sat. I never caught a fish -- crew caught three each day -- no justice. Best fish was a 271/2 incher today and a 24 incher yesterday.
Met Bovineowner at the launch ramp --- nice to meet him and put a face with a moniker
Water still seems to be murky from the past few windy days. Water temp on Fri. was 51 degrees, topped out at 56 degrees today. The water level has dropped -- under three feet now in the channel. Eight or ten boats out today, most of them were after bass or walleye. Weather was nice with a mild wind picking up around 10ish. Still waiting for 60+ degree water.
The best is yet to come.

Did you happen to see if the carp are waking up yet? I'm itching to get out. Last july they were thick as can be on the surface. Imagine it could be getting warm soon.

Last week I saw a few surface-slurpers so we had a bow with us today but never saw a carp?? It's gotta be getting close-- maybe a few more days of warm weather and its game on. Can't wait. I fish the area often so I'll post a "go get 'em" as soon as they become active.

I wasn't there but I will bet that the answer is no. Water temps need to increase I think 60+ degrees is when it is on.

Nice job BLK you guys are definitely keeping the heat on us northerly opponents. I think that's 3 bigger fish than we have already. Are they taking cutbait for you? I can't find a cutbait taker yet this spring and I'm wondering if that's why I can't catch a big one. Nice job. Later J

I herd the Jordan river is open again so it might not get any higher this year.
Lincoln beach has been strange this year, I fished it 3 times and never seen
a walleye caught, only small white bass.

Skunk-- The only bait we use this time of the year is carp meat. We catch the carp and freeze them, then cut them up into inch-and-a-half thick "steaks" and then split them at the backbone. Throw everything into a plastic bag and let it thaw and marinate for a day or so in wife's fridge (use caution1). The thawed guts, blood, and goo worked into the meat makes the bait. Re-freeze it and take it out of the freezer the night before your trip. Good stuff... messy, but good stuff.
Kent-- The water is down from what it was just last week. There is a joint line in the cement on the launch at LB and I use it as a gauge to see if the water is rising. It was lower yesterday than it was just a week or so ago. Open gates?? Big trouble if we don't get some significant run-off soon.

BLK hey that sounds like quite the concoction but I'm pretty sure my wife would kill me making the bait inaffective. Guess I'll stick with my carp chunks freshly filleted and diced and frozen. Then hope they decide to start dinning on then. Getting too dry to keep finding crawlers so I'm hoping the cats change their diet soon up here. Still pretty slow Cattin for me. It will be nice when they decide to put on the feed bag. Later J

The cats seem to like most anything that is carbon-based and even some things that are not. Sometimes the very best bait seems to be a wad of crawlers from Walmart. I do believe they like bloody fresh bait and both carp and wb work great for me.
Just got back from today's outing -- looks like the last chance for a few days with the weather coming on. Caught three cats today but one of them looked like my ticket to the 30 inch club for sure. Shrunk a bit when I got him in the boat so only 271/2 inches but weighed in at 11 lbs. 4 oz. Would like to have checked that stomach pouch in the beast but he continues to swim for others to catch.

I went out to LB last Saturday evening. Saw a few carp jumping around. I was fishing off the bottom with nightcrawlers on one rod and chicken hearts on another. I didn't get anything but mudcats. Excited for things to really pick up!
