Got a quick question about lures for the wiper fishing. So I take it I'm going to need crank baits for trolling. So when purchasing do you get floating, sinking, or diver ones? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I always had decent luck with rapala that dove to around 6 feet, in green, blue or black. Mix it up to see what's working that day.

Hey I like the divers and my one I like the best dives 9' down. I figured that out when I crossed a dike at 9' and it dragged bottom. So when I use that one in the 11 FOW it seems just right for those lower fish. But like mentioned if they dive too deep you can't use them very well at Willard unless you shortline them. Good luck. J

I troll an assortment of lures. We usually troll 3 lines, I like one just off the bottom, one about mid range, and one near the top. This way I can fish the whole water column, even though it's only 10' deep! lol. Really, the secret is finding the fish, I catch them pretty equally on divers, floaters, or whatever once you locate the fish.

Albino,
That picture you attached is, in my opinion, spot on. Those lures should do as well, if not better, than anything else out there.
I will however add that the floating minows work best on a lead core line setup:
Lead core line tied to 60 feet of braid line tied to 8 feet of 12 lb 100% fluorocarbon leader tied to a #1 Duolock snap. Troll it back about 2-3 colors out.
Those floating minows have such a small lip that they won't dive very much. So getting them down with lead core puts them near the bottom and is very successful in getting wiper AND walleye.

Wish I had the time to figure out how to catch them on flies like those. They would be a blast on a fly rod. Later J

Are you trolling those flies behind some sort of weight rig?

Skunk, I seen those 6 packs for sale at Cabelas today for $24.99. Good deal in my opinion. I stuck to the Rapalas. A lot of the good colors and sizes that I got info on were sold out. Those must be the hot ticket if there sold out. Anyway I want to thank everybody for all the information. I'm going to give it hell on Saturday and see what happens. I'll report back on Saturday night.
