#1
Where is the best place and price to buy Mussels that everybody is using for bait at Willard? I'm in the Ogden area.

Mark, I haven't checked but I was told Wal-Mart has them. If I remember correctly, they come in a 5 lb bag.

The closest I ever come to try bait fishing, is to just "consider" it ... always afraid someone might actually catch me in the act. I'm sure that If I were to try it, it would be a bit nervous for me ... kind of like smoking my first cigarette.

And because I admire you and look up to you Mark, and since such a good fisherman as you is considering it, maybe I just might give it a try! [:p] I think I'd want to be in someone else's boat though so that nobody would recognize me!

(LOL ... toung-in-cheek)

Actually, I have to admit, I too have wanted to ask that question too but didn't dare.

Costco in South Ogden had fresh mussels about a week ago. They were pricey, but what you don't use for fish bait you can eat.[laugh]

Coot, well I'm glad I could take one for the team then. Now, I would go out and cast jigs under a bobber, for wipers and I know Dale has done well doing that, but if that many people are using mussels, they must be cheap to buy. So I'm going to go buy myself a bag to eat, to hell with the wipers! [Wink][fishon]

The funny thing about fishing is some of us complain about the price of sea food in the store or restaurant. Like salmon at 7 or so dollars a pound. There are times I think I have spent more then that on a few fish. That is when you count up the fuel in the truck, boat, bait, and all the munchies and drinks bought to go. I think it would be cheaper to buy it out of the store, but that wont happen. I love to get out and fish no matter what the costs are. Nice thing about buying certain baits (mussels, shrimp, cheese, ect) if the fish are not biting and you get hungry, you can snack on what you brought to fish with. [sly]

Couldn't agree more. Its not about how much I spend to go, its the experience that comes along with it.

Yes confirmed walmart sells them in the frozen food section and also confirmed many walmarts are currently sold out because of all the buzz. I would try other grocery stores in frozen food department.

I don't know for sure but would guess Winco would have some for a decent price.

Someone once posted that they used cooked mussels, if you get those you can always eat the evidence. LOL.

According to a friend of mine from work, he has checked everywhere and they are all sold out wherever he went.

They do also sell mussels in a can (look by tuna fish)

Not sure how they perform compared to frozen ones.

They fall off the hook very easy so tying them on with a string or fish line may be helpful.

A fellow BFTer said he got them from Smiths in N Ogden at the meat counter. Also saw some at Harmon's .
