Pliers seizing up?
#1
how do you keep your pliers from rusting shut? I have had mine soaking in wd 40 and they still are a pain. Gun oil? coca cola?

I always had that problem too, but got introduced to aluminum fishing pliers and love em. They are lightweight, strong, no rust and you can pick up a nice pair for less than $25.

WD40 the bejabbers outta them then work them and work them then work them some more being sure to open them fully each time. Wipe all the rusty gunk that comes out of the hinge area, more WD40 and work 'em some more. You can buy a spray preservative (Ithink it's called FelPro Maxicote) at an auto parts store that'll really help keep them from rusting.

Good luck

Corrosion-X. When I was guiding/living in south Florida, the locals laughed WD-40 right out of town. Corrosion-X is what the natives used. And they know something about corrosion in that humid, salty environment where stainless steel rusts overnight, and every untreated electrical connection turns green.

I've got a pair of pliers that don't rust at all and I store it on the deck all the time. I think they're Craftsman. So there are pliers that aren't that expensive and no need to goop them up with anything.

Another endorsement of Corrosion-X. It's designed for marine use - and it works.

I kept having this problem too. Now keep mine in a zip lock bag. I wipe them down before I put them back to make sure they are dry. So far, no rust. I lube them up with WD-40 or some other similar lubricant once a year when I go through my gear to clean it up and organize it. I also purchased a pair of aluminum needle nose as well.
