Have never fished Strawberry. I basically know where the Marina is and that is about all. I do have a Strawberry Reservior map.
Looking to just fish for Kokes. I have downriggers, sonar and all the basic gear(Dodgers, squids, flys, wedding rings, etc.) for Kokes.
Where should I launch and go to try for the Kokes?
Also, my Grandson wants to throw in a crawdad trap. Any spot to try that would be better than another?
Thanks.

Try the soldier creek side from the narrows to the dam. I was there yesterday and fishing was ok, we picked up a few before the wind blew us off.

From the Strawberry marina, straight east towards the mouth of the narrows, then north along that east side then back towards the marina. You will form a ruff triangle they are usually somewhere in that triangle. Finding the depth they are at is the first thing, I'd start at about 25 feet and then move that around depending on where you are seeing them. Speed is the second most important, I'd start at about 1.5mph and then try slightly slower and faster from there.
Good Luck

The secret to Strawberry kokes is to troll til you find them😉, then stay on top of them. Also, if you see a big group of boats go fish by them. Kokes usually don't bite because they are hungry, mostly because the are agitated, so the more people the more they are agitated. Early in the year fish from 12-24 feet with bright colored rigs, later use the glows and whites. I have found this year they like the Orange stuff, orange squid and dodger (the marina carries a good selection). Soldier creek side is good early in the Year and then the Strawberry side heats up mid June and on. The 2 guys that posted before have the right trolling patterns for bogus sides, follow that lead and get some of them Tasty buggers![reply][/reply]

I have found that different colors have worked better on different trips, we usually have to find the right colors and combos that are working that day. Orange has done well for us, and on other trips pink has done well, just depends on the day. Do you use gulp maggots to tip the hook on the squids? They have made a big difference for us. Here's a pic of what has worked for us on various trips.

Crayfish I've found to be most plentiful in the rocky areas. Traps are fine but kids have a blast with chicken lets on a string. Kind of shred some of the meat, toss the leg out, wait 10-15 and do a slow lift & retrieve. Have a long handled net handy, they let go as they leave the water.
Good to eat, kids love to play with them.
