Fearless Fishing Forecast
#1
Here's my fearless (some would say feckless) forecast for the forthcoming frolicsome festivities:

Let me say up front that I'm not a professional meteorologist. I did study it in college, but the weather back then has fossilized by now.

Still, looking at the charts and maps, I'm a bit more sanguine about Sunday and Monday than the TV guys are. I think we'll see building high pressure, dropping humidity, and milder winds after Saturday's rains (which I can virtually guarantee) and a mix of sun and clouds on Sunday.

Monday will be more of the same, although we may see some warm southerly winds building again.

Here's hoping.

If you make plans based on my forecast, only to have them drowned, I'm sorry - but I'm not to blame.

LOL
We sure do need the rain but not all at once.
Guess we just can't be happy without complaining.

[#0000FF]Standard Utah weather forecast: fair and sunny with occasional heavy downpours.

You begin to suspect we are having just about enough rain when everybody clenches their teeth as they say "But we need the water."

I'm not clenching my teeth yet but it looks like this will be the second year in a row that my turkey tag goes unfilled. We do need every drop of water though. With Utah Lake about 3 feet low (or whatever it is), I don't think the young of the year white bass will have a lot of places to hide. I've yet to break out the tube. I've been opting for bank tangling since I can get to cover quicker when Mother Nature acts up. Got rained and hailed on a little bit the other day. Caught fish though!

Rocky your weather predictions seem rock solid, as much as any weather forecast ever is.

So in other words, bring and umbrella and sunscreen and a hat.

This is how I do it:

Rocky's sesquipedalian vocabulary treat for Saturday:

Pluviophile. A lover of rain; someone who finds joy and peace of mind during rainy days.

[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000]I'm not at all sure that 'pluviophile' really qualifies as a sesquipedalian word, but find it apropo for our current weather environment. But how many of our members would describe themselves thusly? Hmmm?[/#800000][/font]

The word's Greco-Roman hybrid origin is subject to debate, certainly. A mixed-race marriage, one might say.

As to loving the rain, while our current wet spell dampens the fishing, it also helps extinguish our drought. Another mulatto offspring, to be sure.

[#484848]Have you noticed that pluviophiles always seem to have a good set of Frog Togs?[/#484848]

As a matter of fact, I have a set!

Back on topic, it seems like I've been correct so far. It would be a very nice afternoon to be after walleye on Willard.

I am a proud pluviophile!!! And most of the folks who share my chosen vocation are as well. Patrick McManus said "Athiests don't ride in canoes" and I don't know f a single rancher who doesn't LOVE rain![Smile][Smile][Smile]

These last storms are the answers to prayers and have sure made the grass grow! YIPEEEEE!!!!

yea buddy, that was close to the worst weather I have ever been out in on Willard .....Yote and I both figured it was better to make a strategic retreat so we could come back another day.....I don't mind being called a wimp, as long as I'm still around to hear it........[unimpressed]

I am hoping to get on the water tomorrow, maybe with the questionable weather, low water level, and cool temps, most of the usual Memorial Day power squadron will go elsewhere.

If I make it out, I'll be going from the south marina, so if ya happen to be there and ya see me, holler or wave...

I will be paying honor to all the troops that have given their all for this great nation by enjoying one of the many freedoms they died for.....the freedom to go anywhere at anytime in the U.S. without fear of government interference ...... To all the Men and Women who have died in all the wars America has fought in, no matter if they were later deemed just or unjust, the troops go where they are ordered, and I will always be proud of their ultimate sacrifice..

Agree with your comments - we wimped out on the fishing at the flotilla but really enjoyed the social time and meeting everyone.

Hope today bodes well - looks like it should.

From 2 Vets (Jeff - SMS USAF, retired - Jil - USAF too) we really appreciate those who gave the ultimate sacrifice as well as those who currently still sacrifice to go and do as ordered. THANK YOU!

Still there is no better feeling than returning to the USA soil beneath ones feet. You just cannot put it into words.

I wish some of these northern storms would head down to Utah Lake. I like the rain for the most part, but I think a break would be a good thing up on the border. I tried to go to my favorite reservoir last week, and it was fuller than I've ever seen it. Water was up to the edge of the road in spots. Most of the places I fish are on dirt roads that get super slick and messy when it rains, so I wouldn't mind letting them dry out long enough for me to safely get up there in my car.

Loved it! Hopefully Rocky is putting bit more into his forecasts.... LOL!

We got more rain today so, of course the plan to get our garden in today will not come to fruition - too muddy. But we are seeing some blue skies here and there in between the lingering clouds so maybe later this week. [crazy]

We made the most of our time by getting our flower planters done though. [Wink]

Jeff recently got a wood lathe (last time he used one was in jr high a few years back - lol) and he's enjoying getting to use it and sharing the time with our son.

So if anyone has any trees with fairly straight trunks or they will be cutting any down this summer - if you're not using the them for firewood - give a shout - they'd like to get some to 'play' with.

Sounds like Jeff may be making lures soon! Zara Spook is easy to turn, and all you have to do is paint it and add hardware.

. . . the freedom to go anywhere at anytime in the U.S. without fear of government interference ......

Maybe the shivering and cowering from waves misled you- I was fully ready to head out to center lake and take it all, as long as Reel fast was ready to come retrieve the carcasses!

Just wish we had headed farther into the harbor, because I'm CERTAIN all the hungry fish were there waiting for us.

As for "interference" - maybe not in your neck of the woods, but local enforcers have been HARD at it in Logan. Cops incognito hanging out in the trees by the Logan river, calling up to their buddies - I believe it amounts to a seat belt sting. Because - well, now they can. Mantua speed trap got NOTHING on this!

Now what about the kids and folks who go buzzing up and down city streets on go carts, ATVs, dirt bikes, and vehicles I'm pretty sure aren't street legal, nor are the kids old enough to have a license. I don't think our roadways should be a playground.

Rocky, 4 syllables, I'm impressed. I do know that one. And as long as I'm not standing outside with a lightning rod, I'm good with rain. My roof on the other hand has other ideas about sharing the moisture.
