BFT --This is a fishing site!
#1
I am having a real Issue with some of the ad’s here on BFT. And I am wondering if anyone else is on the same page with me on this. There is ad’s like “I Cheat with anyone over 40” and another ad’s with some woman’s butt in the air advertising a better and firm Butt, along with others in the past that I have seen, This is a fishing site not a flossy , low budget porn site or something like that.. when I go to BFT to show my wife and daughters along with my sons, information about areas of fishing they do not need to see ad’s on the side columns feathering crap like this, SORRY I am so up front about this but enough is enough over the years. …I know the site needs to make money to stay afloat, but there is better ways of doing this coming from someone that does own a business.. Let’s do fishing [fishin] not crap ads…Thanks

The adds you see are based on your history/cookies I believe.

I never view porn ... ever. But I too have got those insulting adds.

FisnNCoach, in the top right corner of the ads, there are a couple of buttons that provide some ways to stop them. However, they don't work real well as I was still getting them until about a week ago and they stopped ... for how long I don't know.

I highly suspect that it isn't just porn sites that tracks you but other sites as well. Maybe that's why they are popping up.

I do believe that the owner of this site could, if he wanted to, put a stop to them. I doubt it will happen.

But yea, FishNCoach, I agree ... pretty embarrassing when our sweethearts are looking over our shoulder at BFT stuff and see those insulting adds.

This topic has been discussed several times in the past and we are still in the same predicament.

Most members don't want to do what it takes to stop this problem but you simply need to give one of the mods the URL to the ad that you are having a problem with. We can report the ad to Google, who have been told those ads are not allowed on the BFT Utah boards. We have done this before and have had many ads removed but unless we have a URL, we cannot remove the ads.

On the computer that I access this site most often I use Firefox with Adblock Plus. As a result, I see no ads, good or bad when I access this site. Occasionally, I access this site from another computer and use either Firefox, without Adblock Plus, or Internet Explorer and I am disappointed with the ads that I see. I seriously doubt that it is necessary for any fishing site to have to accept those ads in order to make a living. My advice, use Firefox with Adblock Plus installed. Problem solved.

I use AdBlock Plus for various reasons

* I am poor, living off a disability check. Even if I -wanted- something that was advertised, 99.99% of the time I wouldn't be able to afford it anyway.

* Some sites have so many ads, that my computer would take "forever" to load the page (because for some reason we have to load the ads before any of the actual site content comes up!) and I couldn't start reading/seeing/viewing what I wanted to in the first place

* As you say, not all ads are what we even want to see. I used to see dating site ads on BFT, which I suppose is fine. But I have no interest in dating, and most of them were in bright pink! Not only do I not like pink, it totally contrasted with BFTs nice blue & yellow theme (which ARE my favorite colors!) and was visually annoying.

And then there are some sites (KSL & Yahoo news!) that have the ads as part of their content. I hate getting to a news article only to have it say "watch our video for information and the story details"... they have figured out a way that you can't load ANY video with ad blockers. So I get to watch stupid ads and THEN the news cast.
Plus, what about deaf people? I'm losing my hearing (luckily only in one ear, but that's not the point) who wouldn't even get the info anyway if they didn't have print to refer to?

Ahhhh, so that is why I am getting Bass Pro, Jeep, Ken Garff, racing glove and Hatteras yacht adds when I open the site.

Now the Ikea add is not from anything I have done, but I'll ask my wife what she has been up to.

Apparently neither of us looks at the type of websites that lead to dirty adds coming up.

I am curious though, have you been shopping racing safety equipment too?

For some reason I do not believe it has to do with anything we have gone into or looked at on the computer, because there has been some interesting comments so far, and the I do not shop for a lot of things that pop up on the site, I think they need to keep the web a float financially and sleazy adds pay.. My thought only! However there are other ways to fund a site. It is rather embarrassing however to see these adds pop up. I would like to get to the bottom of why this happens and not just speculation of what’s happening to the add sites popping up..

coach I I think you are missing what people are telling you here, the problem is on you end, there are no racy or pornographic adds on others computers, so they are not sponsored by this site. if you want to get rid of these objectionable ads you will have to do some things on your end , update your anti virus software, clean up your data cache and cookies. and get some pop up blocker and spy bot software . I use Norton and have had real good luck with it

Let me spell it out clear for you. Somebody on your computer or phone or other internet device has looked at sites that cause the link to "porn".

That does not necessarily mean a pornagraphic site has been viewed I your computer. But if somebody shopped Victoria secret, or a teenager looked at celebrity news feeds, etc etc it will cause cookies/links to sites that are "similar"

I never view porn ... ever. But I too have got those insulting adds. the computer is linked to office and law services site, it is only when I go into BFT that I see add of this nature, now the adds show up on side columns.. there not so much like hard core porn but things like Viagra, or get your butt in shape, things like that. like right now I see dunkin donuts, I do not go to dunkin donuts, there is also a super charge your dodge, I hate dodge! but these are adds that I have nothing to do with, so you do not have to spell it out for me! I know there popping up, and the true question is why? do we really need all this on the web site. and I do have very good anti pop up soft wear, being in the law service field all of are computers are very well protected./ Thanks
