Hey you guys, I have a few friends coming from out of state in June and they would like to catch a tiger musky for a picture. witch lake should I take them to, to almost guaranteed we will catch one. Thanks

I think you're best options are either Pineview or Joe's Valley. There are a couple places out in the Basin but I'm not familiar with them. Unless I'm doing something wrong, there are no "guarantees " when chasing a musky.

I agree with muskycoop, the tigers might be a little bigger at pineview but I don't think there can be any guarantee when it comes to catching tigers. One thing I will say though, depending on the weather Joes valley will likely have less people than the View. During the Summer months the View can be a nightmare for fisherman. You always have a few hours in the mornings before it gets too bad but the power squadron makes fishing the View tough after they get out[:|]. I've never fished Joes valley in the Summer, so it might be just as bad, not sure on that lake. Good luck Chuck.

Horsepower restrictions are very popular on certain lakes in the northern and eastern parts of the Country.
I wonder when it will be imposed on such lakes as Pineview, Mantua, Jordanelle, Deer Creek, etc?

With the amount of $$$ that Pineview generates for Land and Leisure(Co. that manages PV) during the Summer months, it is doubtful there will ever be any restrictions on motor size, about the best we can hope, is that they will make more areas of the lake wakeless. Likely the same on the other lakes you mentioned as well.
The few lakes that do have those type of rules, lake wide, are small and are usually trout lakes, Causey, Porcupine and Lost creek. There are likely others that I'm not aware of[:/].

I've never fished for the tigers at Joe's Valley but for sure there will be less traffic on the water than PV. The water stays pretty cold all year so you don't have many PWC or skiers. The DWR said there are going to be some fish over the 40" limit showing up this year. There have already been a few caught.

Fished pineview today for about seven hours and couldn't get a muskie to bite for anything. I am sure the warmer weather in june will help with the bite though.

They just tried to impose restrictions on some of the lakes in the Preston area and the power squadron threw such a tantrum that they backed off and decided not to do it. We can always dream though [:/] At least Idaho has a few lakes with restrictions that I get to enjoy. Not many options south of the border.

As for the question at hand, a few years ago I would have said Newton. I almost always caught one there. Sadly that's a thing of the past, at least for a while. It should have filled a bit more with all the rain up here. I know one of my favorite reservoirs in Idaho is on the verge of flooding, it's definitely more than 100% of capacity.

Thanks all you guys, looks like joe's valley is it, I know there is no guarantee's with tiger muskies, I just wanted to know if there is a better population some were else besides the view. the last time I went to the view we had over a dozen fallows and only one hit that was missed. with the water so low at the view all the places I used to catch them are high and dry now.

The statewide daily limit for tiger muskie is one fish over 40" long.

Better check your regs for Pine View, I beleive it's all release for Tigers.

Pineview and Newton are the only bodies of water that are mandatory C&R for Tiger Muskies. When in doubt no matter the species of fish review the Utah Fishing Guidebook to be on the safe side. Here's the link
