Confused fish
#1
I hit rockport this morning looking for some smallmouth bass action. Launched the float tube about 630 this morning near the dam. Water temp 53. Only thing I caught was this brown that was Confused on my intentions. It had two mice in its gut. I have heard of this before but have never experienced this my self 😉

Awesome - once when we were fly fishing the Green just below the dam and I paused to watch a mouse swim by - then out of nowhere the jaws came up from below and just sucked it in. It happened so fast I didn't even have chance to call for Jeff to watch it... I never again laughed when I saw a mouse patterned fly at the store.

Apparently the fish wanted nothing to do with what fly I was offering....

Nice catch! Bet it was fun!

Nice fish. Catching fish on a mouse fly is a good time.

That is my favorite fly combo on the South Fork of the Snake River in Idaho in the evening.

Cast it onshore or as close as you can to the shore and swim it down or across the water.

I have a buddy that swears by throwing a Mouse pattern at night on the green.

I bet you could catch some largemouth or smallmouth with the same pattern.

a lot more protein in one feeding.

Big cutts and largies love mice. I'm not sure about any pattern tho...

All I have to say is big trout + mouse patterns = my favorite way to catch fish

Heck even the smaller largemouth will eat them. I was fishing a lake with a lot of smaller bass that could use thinning, so I kept one that was only 11.5", and while it was in my fish basket it threw up a mouse as well as about a 7" plastic worm. Greedy bugger.
