Welcome Mac-Attac. I have been frequenting Bear Lake (might be trying again this Friday) for about a year now. I hate to admit it, but I am still trying for my my first ten pounder. I also have tried to make it up to Flaming Gorge, but that is another story. We look forward to your reports. Please consider not using ALL CAPS. All caps is equivalent to shouting, and it is difficult to read.

Good to have you on the site Mac-Attac, it's always good to have another Bear lake fisherman on the site. Here is a link to the lastest trip one of our members made to Bear lake, this was on Sunday:

Welcome to the BFT Utah Board! We all enjoy a good tale about fishing nice pictures, techniques, bait & lure types. All the goodies that make fishing so much fun to share. These guys on the board are all fun to fish with and you can ask any stupid question and get a reasonable answer. I know because I've asked more than my fair share of stupid questions.

Enjoy the site and we'll enjoy your pics & posts

Welcome Mac-Attack!

I live in Roosevelt and make about 6-12 trips to the Gorge a year. Sad to admit, I'm usually one of the crowd on the bay. Thought I'd stay out there until I had a clue as to what I was doing. I'm still out there, so that should tell you something. My best is 17.5lbs., and that was from Fish Lake. Maybe you'll let me pick your brain sometime. I'm in a 1965 16' red/white Sabrecraft. Just look for the oldest, ugliest boat on the water. It floats, and for now it runs well. I'm starting work on rebuilding an 18' boat that I will hopefully have on the water before the end of the upcoming season. I'll have to see if the money comes in fast enough to have it done. Jig one up from 100' and you're hooked for life. I know I am. Doesn't matter if it's 2lbs. or 20lbs. Glad to have another mack-head on the board. Hope to see you out there sometime.

ill look for ya out there it does not matter what your ridding in as long as your out there.if i had to i would paddle out on a old car hood to fish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i dont make it over near as much as i would like to my wife doesent have the same feeling as me and my boy do about spending quality family time on the gorge.she doesent understand how i can sit in the bow of my boat for 12 hours straight stairing at a sonar jiging for macs and think that it is fun.this sumer we were out in sheepcreek bay in late july and a thunder storm came in fast like they do over there and the wind really picked up so i had to downrig for kokes and wait out the storm(i dident see any need to head for camp and hide in the trailer)anywho we stayed out in it and the koke fishing was pretty good so she wasent to mad un till the lightning started hitting the water all around us.there was so much electricity in water and the air if you got to close to the rigger cables it would arc across and shock the crap out of you.needless to say she dident think that i was the shinest penny in the bank that day.i dont know if ill get her back out in the boat again if there is a cloud in the sky.

hi mac attat welcome to the board, there are some real nice folks here.i also spend alot of my time chaseing big macks on the gorge.{To much time according to some} i usually fish out of squaw hollow and either go north or south,i fish around the pipeline alot also. You mentioned haveing the arc on your downrigger cable i have seen that also.Thats one reason i went to the braided cable on my downriggers.I also like that they are quietier when trolling fast.they dont sing at all.Hope to see you on the gorge this spring.

That singing from my downrigger is really annoying. I haven't heard about braided cables. Where can I find out more information about them.

I got mine from cabela's it comes in different pound strengths and lengths.i really like it .Another thing i like it that is dont kink like steel cable does.i have never had any trouble with it breaking, from getting the downrigger weight hung up.If you are any where near salt lake city ,you might try sportsmen ware house.. good luck
