Non stop fishing for small crappie at PV
#1
Fished from 4:30 til 6:30 today and had fast fishing for crappie but they were all small. I found some cover and there were crappie all around near shore. I started with a jig under a bobber. In a half and a half I caught eleven crappie this way and then two mud cats. I decided to try without a bobber and thats when fishing was awesome. I just casted out and bounced it on the bottom. I was catching fish every cast after I did that. Most fish were about 8 inches. I caught over 20 and I don't think there was a single one over 9 inches. Small but fun to catch.

Fast action. It makes small fish like that fun.

I'm taking 5 kids there tomorrow for some of that crappie fun. Did jig color matter? I really want to get back in the shallows but most of those good areas are now closed to boats as far as I can tell. Does anyone know what the rules are out there beyond the buoys back in the brush?
thanks in advance.

Thanks for the report. I've been wondering when the crappie but would start at PV. Sounds like it's time to pay a visit.

I used a black curly tailed jig and then I lost it so I tried a black and chartreuse one and both worked well. I'm sure anything would work with how quick they were hitting. When using the bobber I would cast then count to ten. If nothing I would recast. They were hitting right when the bobber hit the water. I had tons of hits it was just hard to hook them with the bobber.

How deep of water were you fishing and how far under the bobber was your jig. Thanks.

The jig was 18 inches under the bobber and I fished about 5-8 feet of water. Went out again today with a fly rod. Caught about 70 fish in 4 hours. I left at 8:00 and that was when the fishing was the best
