White Bass - The Bite Is On!
#1
I finally got some free time and was able to hit Utah Lake this afternoon with my son. We got to the American Fork Boat Harbor and walked to where the American Fork River flows into the lake. We were not the only ones there. There were probably about 15 fishermen standing out in the lake along the water line where the river meets the lake. Everyone was catching fish on about every other cast. I saw several wire fish baskets full of white bass!! Everyone was having a great time. The spawn is definitively on! On a separate note, of the 26 fish we kept, all of them were males. Not a single female.

I was using a chartreuse crappie jig head with a green speckled tube jig with yellow legs. It was my best producing jig today. The best technique today was to cast across the river line of water and pull your jig through the current. Usually, when the jig was in the current or just after it came out of the current the fish would hit the jig.

I used a electric knife to fillet these fish and it was very efficient and saved a ton of time. If you have a electric knife I would recommend that you use it when filleting these fish. I also put a google earth map where we were fishing with the direction we were casting that gave us the best success.

Good luck and I hope this information is helpful.

Nice report!! My son and I were at American Harbor Friday morning and did not have a good day at all. I guess it's probably because we are new to the area and didn't know where to look for them.
However, we did not get skunk or at least, my son didn't; me on the other had had a lot of nibbles but no taker.
We were on our float tube inside and outside the marina, and we were not getting any love from the fish at all. Next time we hit American Fork, we will definitely try where the river flows into the lake.

An electric knife is the only way to go with White Bass. Great report. I haven't held a whitie for over a year. Might need to change that soon!
