859 advice needed
#1
I need some advice from you expert Bird guys please.
My 859 will freak out every once in a while. The screen will break up and it will read a foot or two deep even when I know I am a hundred foor plus.
This shot if from Saturday while fishing SC for kokes.

had the same problem. Comes from electrical interference - possibly your bow mount if you have one. Can try turning down the sensitivity setting on the Humminbird unit. Eventually I wrapped the wiring coming from the 859 thru a choke that Humminbird provided. that solved the problem. Give em a call - they provided the choke free and were very helpful.

How is you power connected to you finder Shane? I was told when you pick up interference on any finder that it can be caused by how the power wire or transducer cable is run. It is ideal if your power wire comes straight from the battery and not tapped into your dash for power. Also try and run your power wire or transducer cable separate from your other wires going to your dash, an 2 to 3 inch separation should be good. On some boats but not all you might also need to mount some type of insulation plate on the back of your boat, then connect your transducer to the plate. The insulation plate can be made of wood but I prefer teflon, like the kind you get from a cutting board because wood will deteriorate over time. These are the some methods some must take to get a clean signal to their finder but they will work unless there is something wrong with your finder.

Interference is probable correct.

Sharp vertical bars are usually interference from something.

Remember what you did to make it go away or start for that matter.
Probably something in your boat, does not look like interference from another graph BUT were you running two units at the same time?

Thanks to all of you guys trying to help.
I installed it myself about 1.5 yrs ago so I vaguely remember hooking it up behind the dashboard because I wanted to take advantage of it shutting down when I shut off my master switch. I guess I could put in a small relay and hopefully have a win/win.
The ducer I have mounted on a piece of Starboard that is then mounted to my transom.
As far as doing anything different between the last two items I can not think of a single item.
I only have one finder on my boat so I will change my wiring and hopefully have a fix!
