If you were thinking it was from some monster fish...you're wrong it's okay I wish so too, any who loving my new career that allows me to take hour lunches and come and go from work as I please, (state farm insurance agent) oh and my name is jake so you guys can start calling me jake from state farm. back to the point. on these hour lunches I usually go to willow park pond and fish since its very close, went there yesterday and had my pole sitting up against the side of my car. had the door open because I was grabbing something from inside, I guess the top of the pole Slid down into the door, I didn't notice. and proceeded to slam the door so the upper 6-9 inches of my pole was broken off, Only missing the final "eye" of the pole was broken off so I guess it kinda still works, but I'd like to get it repaired if at all possible, (it is a 100$ rod) any body have any experience with this? is it worth it? sorry to make this out to be a novel. but its a slow day at work ha. thanks very much guys I appreciate it [fishin]

Sportsman's put a new one on for only $3 for me or you can buy one of those repair kits and do it yourself.

You can take to a local tackle shop, but the blank is broken and never be the same. The new rods can take a beating but they break your original strength will be lost. Time to go shopping its almost fathers day!

I keep one of those do-it-yourself repair kits with three different sized tips in my pack and tackle box just for those instances.
9" off the tip will definitely change the action of the rod. I'd fish it with heavier line after the repair and replace the broken rod with a similar, lighter action.

Okay Jake from state farm, I can put another tip on it for you and rewrap all the other guides and space them right. as for repairing a broken section, that will not work. also the way it was broke there might be more damage (split) along the rod, so it might have to be shortened even more.
If your interested I have 2 beautiful bait casting rods for sale right now, both are split handles 6 1/2 foot fast tip medium action. both have a very nice butt wrap, beautiful
looking rods. one has hardloy guides and the other has silicon carbide guides both have cork handles. the one with the hardloy guides is up for 150.$ and the other is up for 200.$

Depending on the make of the rod, you can contact the manufacturer and see if they have a replacement tip ( whole upper section) for that particular model. Some do, some don't. You can just put a new tip top on the broken tip, remembering that by losing the top 6-8 inches, the action of the rod will be changed grammatically. It will be stiffer and will not cast as well with the flexibility of the last few inches gone. A replacement tip will cost you almost as much as a new rod, again, depending on the manufacturer.

If you paid a $100 for the rod it most likely with have a factory warranty and you can send it in for a replacement. I know for my Finwick the replacement was free but I paid Angler Den $25 to ship it for me. Just a thought.

She sounds hideous! lol
I have 2 rods that I have just put a new eye on the end and have never had a problem since! Sportsmans sells the little repair kits for a few bucks with a couple sizes of eyelets and hot glue which you just melt with a lighter. Works better than I ever thought they would!
