August is buoy 10 Fishing on the Columbiia. Wife and I will be heading up for our annual trip. Curious to know if anyone else will be going up this year. Need to compare notes on tackle. Last year the magic color was orange and I didn't have anything. Don't want to make the same mistake this year! Took a local out on my last day. Went offshore Longbeach Peninsula and he had 18 takedowns in 4 hours with orange while I only had 2. Going to fix that this year with a supply of various colors for the flashers. Good luck to any one heading up!!

I'm hoping the boy and I can get a trip in before school starts. Last year we fished the WA peninsula and did ok but not sure it's worth the extra drive. Think we'll be sticking with buoy 10 in the future. Good luck to you also.

Boats but I'd bet there are some locals that catch them from the north and south jettys.

Good Luck ...... When they are in, it's a ton of fun.
Watch out for those pesky Sea Lions. They always like to bite your fish in half before you get it to the boat.

You're right about that. I've had several instances over the past years where a sea lion literally ripped a hooked salmon nearly in half. They don't look very good with those diagonal rips on their sides.
Also, have to watch for submerged logs after an extra high tide. I hit one once and was grateful that my motor had a breakaway feature that kept me from loosing the lower unit.
Lots of dangers up there including crossing the bar or having to come back across it at the wrong time. But ... the salmon fishing is super. Talked the wife into staying for about 2 weeks this time to be sure we hit some of the big runs of Kings. If you see a Trophy with a UT registration, stop and say hello.

If you ever get tired of the combat fishing at Bouy 10, come on up to La Push. We fish there every year, so I can show you the ropes. We fish salmon, rockfish and tuna.

We just might do that this year for a day trip. Actually, we try to avoid most of the heavy traffic in the river and do well. Last year I spent a lot of time in the Pacific north from the river several miles. There was some boat traffic, but a whole lot of water to fish in.
I'll check out the La Push area and send you a PM if we decide to try it. Do you use the conventional diver-flasher-herring rig up there. Would appreciate a PM if you can.

I use downriggers with Mini Hot Spot flashers and either hoochies or spoons for salmon. Tuna is a different story.
