Caddis for Lower Provo?
#1
Hey guys--

This is my first post in the fly forum; I've been more or less strictly a spinner/bait/jig guy on spinning gear for my fishing career.

I might be making the leap soon and adding a fly rod to my aresenal, but I have already started fishing flies with a bubble, primarily on the Lower Provo.

I also started tying flies this past weekend, so I'm basically a total noob to selecting materials and colors.

I'm curious what body/wing/hackle colors people have had the most success with on the Lower Provo for browns? I have one caddis dry that I've tied with a tan body, no hackle, and natural elk hair wing.

I'm going to picking up some hackle feathers this week, and I would love recommendations for color/type. I'm trying specifically to match the caddis emergers and adults on the Lower Provo this time of year, but it seems like people tie caddis in about 3248 different colors.

Any pointers would be much appreciated!

If your primarly fly fishing lower provo a lot catch a few caddis and take a picture of them on your smart phone if you got one then try matching the color of it that way.

Usually I go with tan or natural elk hair.

Maybe try tossing some mouse pattern, streamers, and woolly buggers white black or red #2-8.

Welcome to the forum and with that said I will confess to not fishing regular caddis patterns. I only fish Micky's caddis and for that you'll have to go talk to Micky at Fish Tech.

I have caught fish from 7 to 20 inches on it on lakes and rivers all up and down Utah. It is way more durable than a regular caddis dry too.
