New Creek
#1
I decided to try a new creek the other day. When I got to the property the farmers dog decided he wanted to tag along. I hiked through the property to the creek with the dog by my side and started fishing. Right when we got to the perfect looking spot I got down to the rivers edge and the dog decided to jump right in. After I sternly told him to get out of the water, and he actually listened I decided to see if he hadn't scared off all of the fish. On my first cast I got hooked up in a tree down stream. I had to wade through the perfect hole to get my lure untangled.

I probably should have given up on that spot right there, but it looked so nice that I spent another 10 minutes casting to it. About half way through that time I had what felt like a decent fish hit my lure, but he spit it out pretty quickly and I never saw him so I wasn't sure on the size.

The stream had basically no place to walk on the side of it, so I was wading all day. As I worked my way upstream I wasn't catching anything. I finally tried a new technique where I would slowly let my rapala float down stream under some of the cover I couldn't cast to. I then reeled it up stream. I tried this several times sure their was a huge fish under this tree that had it's branches brushing the water. Finally as I was about to give up on this technique my lure got a hit! I was so excited I reeled in much harder than I needed to. When the fish got in it was only about an 8 inch brown.
I continued working my way upstream and started catching a few more small browns. I started thinking maybe I should have just hit the Weber instead of this creek so I could have caught some bigger fish.

As I was thinking about leaving to go try the Weber I came to an area where the stream divided and then came back together. I cast my lure right to the area where the two streams started to flow back together and turned my reel maybe twice when my rapala got completely destroyed by a large brown trout! This fish fought like no other. It jumped out of the water multiple times and it took me quite a while to work him in. Boy was that an adrenaline rush and a lot of fun! I finally got him to the shore and took a few quick photos and a measurement and then watched him swim away. He measured just over 20 inches, and he is the one pictured.

I continued to work my way up the stream and about 10 minutes later had another nice fish take my lure this one was about 18 inches. After I let him go it was past time when I should be leaving so I headed back down the stream and back to my car. It was a great day to be out in nature, and sure is fun to try new spots.
