[font "Comic Sans MS"][#800000][size 4]Now that the canning is done for us for the season, my wife Mary, my daughter Rachel, and myself decided to treat ourselves to a day of fishing.
My fishing logs and notes all say that this time of year the water is cool enough to start fishing the shallows of the Renegade and Meadows areas in the south end of Strawberry. But recent reports say that the water is still hovering around the upper 50s and even lower 60s. So, not really sure whether to launch at the main marina or the Renegade marina, I decided to launch at the main marina, see firsthand what the water temps were, and then go north to the deeper water if temps were still high or go south to Renegade if the temps were low.
These two ladies that were with me are NOT early morning people. So we didn't even leave home (Clearfield area) until around 7:30 am. We launched around 10:00 and were finally fishing around 10:45.
Upon launching, the water temps were at 59°. With water temps that high, I decided to go north to the cooler water spots.
Rachel's first drop of the day got her this nice 20" football:

For the next three hours we only caught another three fish. So, being disappointed, we decided to make a long run down to a point out in the Meadows (just east of the Renegade ramp). We anchored up and fished there for the last two hours of our trip. The water temps there were 61°. But to my surprise, we started catching more fish there than out north. Mary caught this nice 22" cut:

She said that Pepper, our little dog, helped her find it:

We ended the day out in Renegade with a total of 11 fish, one nice rainbow and one slot buster cut. Accept for a couple Rachel caught casting (her first time to ever cast a lure), all others were caught vertical jigging 2½ pearl holograph Fresh Water Basics tubes with a 3/8 oz. lead head tipped with chub:

Even though it was definitely not a fast day of fishing, it was a wonderful day to be out with family. A big success in my book.
According to other fishermen at the ramp, it was slow for them too.
I was hoping for the fall fishing in Renegade to have started up but I would have to say it's still probably a couple weeks away.
