Powell

Wanted to get in some fishing the boils at Powell..

Headed down Friday about noon and was on the water by 4:15 and was setting up camp by 5:30 in Good hope bay, but not one boil none nope none..The wind was keeping a chop on the water so that must be why..
No in three days not one Stripper was seen jumping..But that was not all bad, the top water was still good at times for the LM an Smallies..

I found one LM about 2" long with a 3" shad in its mouth and on the top of the water.. I pulled the shad out of the basses mouth the bass swim away but the shad could not..
The fishing was great with many kinds of fish caught, the biggest Lm was 5.2lb and SM bass at 4.10 blue gill was 12.2" and 15oz ..
It was a great trip water temps was 76 air was in the 80's with nights in the 60's..

Those LMB have bigger eyes than their stomache at times.

Over the years I have found many LM bass with other things to big to swallow and dead or close to it or even trying to eat a lure at the same time..

The only camera I had was on my phone and I don't like to lay the fish on the hot carpet just to take a picture and selfies well not my thing..

Over the years I have taken lots of pictures of big fish so one more or less is not a big thing to me any more..

When or if you make it to Powell in the fall take some Devil horses and spooks and have fun..

How? When you are a lone do you get a good picture of your fish?? I don't like to lay them on the carpet (they just flap) and to hold a big fish at arm's length even worse..

Interesting report there BR, I would have thought that you would have been surrounded by striper boils. But you sure do know how to make up for it with the other bass.

Thanks for sharing.

I hear you Cliff, it is tough to get a pic worthy of posting when you are all by yourself, especially when the fish gets to be over 20 inches. Last week I had to talk a homeless guy into taking my picture....and he wasn't amused by my picture advice/standards.

I like the fish measuring boards that are trough like, they cradle the fish pretty good to prevent flopping, but once again it aint the best picture to share. Still the scenery of the powell (for those of us that haven't been there) is totally pic worthy.

My cell phone camera sucks (still have the old style phone) but EvilTyeDyeTwin's newer phone had me blown away by the quality. Anyway thanks for posting up the reports cliff, hope to see and hear more from you sooner rather than later too.[Smile]

Was hoping for that as well, but I think the moon was the blame it was so bright I could fish at night if the boils was going on..
The Bullfrog open was going on so we had other bass fisherman zooming around all day as well..

I spent last Wed., Thurs., and Fri. fishing around Slickrock, Iceburg and the Rincon. The fishing was great for largemouth and smallmouth, but we never seen any boils either. Most years they are tearing it up this time of year, but this has been a strange year for some reason. We never caught any 5 lbers, but quite a few 1 1/2 and 2's.
