Strawberry, Renegade Boat Ramp
#1
Hey guys, had to change my username.. I haven't posted much on here anyways unless it is ice fishing, coming soon hopefully!! Anyways, I was wondering what the Renegade boat ramp is like? I might be taking a 24' tooner out Saturday to Strawberry and I don't have much loading experience and I know how busy the Strawberry main ramp is. Is there sufficient space at Renegade for a 24' tooner, is it as busy as the main boat ramp? If you guys could give me some info, I would really appreciate it.. Thanks..

Hey Jackin_Jaws,

Renegade is the ramp that I launch a 26' maxum. I've never had problems launching when I go, granted i'm usually pretty early arriving and late leaving. I believe it has 6 lanes, but people sometimes park weird so it's more like 4 or 5. I don't think I've ever waited more than 10 minutes to launch and often times I pull right in. My last camping trip there was in August 9th to the 15th.

I'm retired so I don't fish on weekends, I don't know what Saturdays are like. But Renegade has plenty of room. Except for where the dock is there are 4 good lanes to launch. It probably won't be long before they take the dock out so that will open up another lane. Good luck on the fishing.

One issue that I have run into on the Renegade ramp is people launching their boats and then tieing to the dock that is in the middle of the ramp, while they wait for their fishing buddy to join them. This effectively closes down one and sometimes two of the launch lanes. I understand doing this if one is launching a boat without a tow-vehicle driver to help, but I don't understand doing this when the operator of the boat is sitting in the boat waiting for the driver of the tow vehicle to join him/her. Better to move the boat out of the way and then slide in for a brief moment when the driver of the tow vehicle is on the dock waiting to be picked up.

+1 to what Kent said. People anchoring to the dock is one of my pet peeves.

Thanks for the info guys, I really appreciate it.. The trip now has been put off until Monday, I need to burn a day off for work and so my dad can go also.. We have been to Strawberry once this year and did o.k. We don't seem to have any success trolling or jigging, just baiting up with powerbait.. I caught two really nice cuts in Salamander Bay, one on the brink of being a slot buster about 1/2" to small and a complete toad slot buster coming in at 24" and I am guessing around 6-7 pounds, it was heartbreaking yet satisfying letting him go back in the lake, I will post some pics of him when I get back from the other trip Monday.. When I weighed him I didn't zero out the weigher correctly and those two came off of powerbait.. I was wondering when trolling the Berry, what is a good speed to troll at when targeting the rainbows and cuts?

I rarely troll but when I do I don't go by MPH speed. I put the lure that I'm using in the water and watch what it does. I try to troll at the slowest speed that makes the lure perform they way it should. This works for me.
