Logan river, 1st dam: adrenaline rush
#1
For all those non-Logan people, 1st dam is a tiny reservoir just outside Logan. After getting skunked at Hyrum, we decided to check out 1st dam. Since it is a river I was more worried about falling through the ice. We saw two other groups already on the ice. The one we talked to reported good success.

The coolest thing about the trip was the adrenaline rushes. My friend and I are both novice fisherman and not used to the noises that ice makes. I expected creaks and groans, but 3 times we heard what sounded like cracking right under our feet. We would jump out of our chairs and wet our britches while trying to figure out where to go. We would then realize that we were not falling in. After waiting for our knees to stop shaking and checking to see that the ice was indeed still 8in thick, we would sit back in our chairs and continue trying to coax fish out of water. I'll be back again, but perhaps with a rope tied from my waist to the car to help me feel a little safer.

hashbaz: Feel secure when you hear those cracking noises,it means the ice is growing and getting stronger, water expands when it freezes. Wish I was there watching you guys freak out.[Smile]
