Shrimp at Strawberry
#1
I took my uncle up to Strawberry last Saturday and decided to experiment using frozen shrimp.

I figured they'd work AWESOMELY.. I figured wrong...

I used them to tip tube jigs and we tried jigging all over the lake. I ended up catching 2 slot cuts on the shrimp, but that's all.

We hit the water at 11am and left around 5pm. Not early risers..

So, is the fishing best at the crack of dawn, or are shrimp just not something that works up at Strawberry?

I guess I'll use Chub to tip the tube jigs from now on. Worms were a bust a couple weeks ago, and Shrimp didn't work this week. Of course, I didn't see too many fish on the finder either, so I just don't know.

We tried about 5 areas I have used in the past and only caught the 2 slot cuts.

Well, I'm looking forward to the temperature getting a bit lower in the water. It was about 58 at Renegade and 57 at mud creek according to my fish finder.

I try and get there when they have to throw away the out dated shrimp. And either get it gave to me, or get at least 1/2 off. Depends on who helps me that day. But I have still had mixed results with shrimp too.

that's all I use anywhere is frozen shrimp. I let it thaw on the drive up and I honestly do just as well as any other bait. I've outfished guys in the same boat with shrimp and they were using fresh caught bait. I think it's like anything else, it boils down to location, time of day and how the fish are reacting that particular day. The berry can be fickle. One thing I do always like to do even when I tip my tube jig with shrimp, I'll still add a little bit of smelly jelly. Don't know if it matters but there are lots of mental things I do that probably do not matter.

crawdaddy might be my favorite. but I have been using bass feast lately. I think the next time I buy some, I'll try the crawfish salt one. I know it's expensive stuff but those jars go a long long ways. I always slather it on ice fishing as well. and of course on my soft plastics for bass fishing. It's good stuff.

We have caught lots of fish at Strawberry on shrimp and also on cut bait. I consider it about 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other. Both work.
