Fished Lincoln today and caught these beauties... all of them 28+ inches. Probably got about a dozen this same size... and shape.
It was too windy for me today in the early a.m. so stayed close to the orchards where there was some shelter from the wind. Did okay but nothing better that abut 26 inches. The wind calmed down about 10:30 so headed for the Bird. Nothing biting there so I took out my frustrations on the other fish that were there in abundance. Fun.
Almost done with the cats... maybe one more time. I now have a good supply of bait in the freezer to start next year.
It ain't over yet.

Hey,
A wise old man told me how to prepare those beauties that you caught for eating. It's a delicious recipe. Very easy too:
1. Find or purchase a relatively clean pine board 1 inch thick, 6 inches wide and long enough to fit the fish with about 1 inch of board extending past the head and tail of the fish.
2. Place the fish on the board, and the board on a cookie sheet to reduce mess in your oven.
3. Place this in your oven and cook at 375 degrees for 4 hours.
4. Remove the fish from the board and deposit in the yard of any neighbors that you dislike.
5. Eat the pine board.
Hope you enjoy the above recipe.. Question is: Is it appropriate to remove wooden splinters from your teeth with a wooden toothpick ?? [crazy]

If the cats won't cooperate, well then the sewer bass are almost always available to play the game. Way to recover on a potential melancholy day at the ol mud hole. Although it looks like a picture of some carp, I see past that .............
I see some really big cats in the future. Nicely done Lynn! Keep up the good work.

[#0000FF]Scaly golden cats. Simple.
Looks like fun to me. Fun is where you find it...or make it. Nobody hands it to you.
Thinking about getting serious about walleyes next week. Will email ya when I REALLY get serious.

I'd say you're set up for bait for sure.

TD-- I'll watch for that email.
Half dozen or so walleye guys out in front of the orchard today... actually, every day. Die-hard bunch to fish all day chest deep in water without moving more than a few feet. I fished and watched them fish all day today. People that fish all day like that are not well. At least I caught a few fish. Wally addiction must be worse than cataholicism.
Your thoughts on those big ol' carp I shot up today-- They were all big fish and most of them had big pot bellies. Eggs?? Is there such a thing as a second spawn? I didn't dissect any of them before I froze them. Maybe just porking out to get through the winter months? I shot a couple of them that were so heavy I couldn't lift them in the boat without the arrow wings pulling clear through them.
That Loy outfit doesn't seem to be making much of a dent in the population from my observations. I can at least say I am doing my part to reduce the carp population.
Fish on.

Those are some nice carp. I'm curious how are you seeing them? Are they up in pods on top or what?

[#0000FF]Those diehard wallie-waders are a dedicated bunch, for sure. But they have been there every year for many years...especially during low water times when they can get out to the edge of the rock shelves. They often get nothing more than a lot of casting practice. But when the walleyes move in they also make some good scores.
Carp spawn? They only do it once...in the spring. But during weird weather springs not all carp will successfully spawn. I have found females with eggs still in them well into the year. However, I suspect that if you did the "CSI" thing on those you shot you would find their belly bulk mostly internal organs and visceral fat.

One's personal observations and opinions are usually just that...personal and subjective. My read is that they have been reducing the numbers and that has allowed some to grow larger. Before the nettings began, the "average" size of carp was much smaller...and most of them were much thinner in girth. I have seen more carp over 10 pounds this year than anytime in the past 5 years.
I have also seen fewer carp around most areas of the lake. But if you find a gathering spot they can still be plentiful and pestiferous.

Enve-- I see them all the time whenever the water is fairly calm on sunny days. They seem to be just cruising around in singles and small groups. Sometimes they do their surface slurping thing but mostly they just seem to be enjoying the sunshine. They are in deeper water usually just under the surface... sometimes with their backs out of the water. I have seen them around the island and out in front of the orchards. They are not too spooky and it is easy to get close enough for even me to hit one. A net would help to get them in a boat because they are so big and heavy the fish arrows pull right through. Fun diversion when the cats don't want to play. Also, great cat bait.
Go get 'em.

Yes BLK wally addiction is bad, I wish I was as brave as you to launch, I walked around in the harbor last Thursday, be carful ther is a hump where the boats have pushed up the rocks that you are missing at the end of the ramp, , but im sure you know about it, if I didn't have to go to work I would try to thumb a ride out to the island so I could wade out there,

Good job reducing the carp population! You helped more in one afternoon than I have in the last 5 years! I may have to buy a fishing arrow. It just seems like there is too much junk in my boat to add more toys.
It sounds like you didn't see the chest wader warriors catch anything, correct?

I have been looking at bow fishing outfits this year. Still not sure if I want to invest yet. My son likes the idea though so he may get on for Christmas this year.
