Goats, Tigers, and Cutts......
#1
Needing an excuse to hit a favorite little fishing hole of mine, I found one that I couldn't resist....baby goats!

The next morning I awoke well before dawn hoping to catch the predawn bite.

I had no idea that was a thing.[Smile]

Is this the fish you are talking about?

[#0000ff]The fish in your pic is an east coast species.

The one in California is a member of the wrasse family. They all start out as females...small and pink in color. Then, as they grow older they transform to males...with the black and red colors. Great fish and good eating.

By the way. Nice pics. The fish are purty, the goats are cute and so is the lady. You do good work.

[#0000FF]I really miss SoCal salt fishing. With the El Nino going on the "exotics" from warmer waters...tuna, dorado, wahoos and others...have been coming within range of the half day and full day boats. And a lot of private boaters have been hammering them too.

But I'm sure that a lot of those guys would dearly love to get a shot at some of the lovely troutskis you get into. The grass is always greener...in Colorado.

The Sheepshead are great eating too!

I have been talking to a couple San Diego friends and they said this year has been amazing! Catching Yellowtail off the rocks on the MB jetty, Yellowfin inside Dana Point harbor, lots of Dorado, and the biggest Marlin since the 1930's caught at 9 mile!

[#0000FF]Yeah, I had to really force myself to keep from checking the boat reports this summer. And my son and grandson have a six pack boat that was ready for me to climb on...until the one engine needed a few thousand dollars worth of work. Had to cancel at the last minute. Life ain't fair.

Happy for all the guys who are taking advantage of it but wishin' I could be there too.

You're right about the baa baas. Super firm white flesh. Great as "poor man's lobster". Used to go down to the Sea of Cortez a lot and get some Mexican hogfish. Also members of the wrasse family. Hit lures well and eat good too.

I forgot to mention that I didn't get to try the new rod mount as I only had a few hours to fish before needing to get back to SLC. Gotta get a trailer for my pontoon so i can just launch and not spend so much time setting up my craft on the beach.

What I did get to try was that stuffed trout recipe. WOW and thank you is all I can say!! We skipped on the mushrooms (as I am allergic to them) and stuffed it with white rice, uncooked shrimp, onions, green onions, garlic, bell peppers, lemons and dill. The left over uncooked stuffing held on to the seasoning really well too and was just as pleasurable as the cooked stuffing that quickly ran out. Evil TDT, Sondra, and I have to tip our hats to you for providing that one, and in record time too.

Yeah she is quite the catch. I took her fly fishing for her 1st time a few weeks ago to a place that I thought was my ace in the hole. She got the basics extremely quickly but the fish weren't cooperative for her. I nailed a nice 24 inch tiger though, on a dry fly no less... just so she could see how its done of course![Wink]

I couldn't convince her to go carp chasin on the fly with me though..she wants nothing to do with those smelly creatures.

[#0000FF]Sounds like a good reason to maintain personal hygiene. Also sounds like she is a keeper.

Interesting that you made your connection on July 4th...Independence Day. A man does not know true happiness until he is married...but by then it is too late.

Really nice tiger on a dry.

Glad the stuffed trout was a hit. Gotta get you guys into some walleyes and show you the epitome of fishy eats. But, I seem to recall you have caught walleyes before. Right?

Most guys with pontoons like the idea of being able to take them to the water ready for action...minus a few top-off pumps to insure full rigidity. If you have a suitable pick-em-up truck, that works well. But for a smaller city car it is not advisable to strap them to the top. I have carried some good sized toons on the top of my Blazer...with the rooftop rack. But having a small trailer is about the best way to go if you have a city machine. Check with Albino. I think he got a good deal on one from Harbor Freight.

Nothing finer than cheek meat off a walleye!!!

I have only gone purposely walleye fishing twice and actually got some to take home. The other attempts were either complete failures or I stumbled upon them chasing other toothy critters at Yuba....you know what they say about a blind squirrels....well its true for me! I guess 2012 was a good year for this squirrel!

My first and second walleyes. The 1st one I caught was 24 inches long and caught at the Jordan River off a crank that you gave me tube dude![Smile]

A 3lb 1oz 20.5 inch Walleye from yuba that I stumbled upon!

Can't find all my other pics of my walleyes, and I think there were only 3 others I have caught anyway.
